PAGE 4 THE POST SCHOOLS SCHOOL BRIEFS Summer Fun Night at Dallas Elementary The Dallas Elementary School will hold “Summer Fun Night” from 6:30-8 p.m. Wednes- day, April 26 in the school cafe- teria. The school is located on Hildebrandt Road in Dallas. Sponsored by the Dallas Ele- mentary School Parent-Teacher Organization, the event is open to the public. More than 50 local businesses and organizations will be present with information about summer programs for children of all ages. There will also be free drawings. SAT prep course set for PSU W-B Penn State Wilkes-Barre, in cooperation with Cambridge Education Services, Inc., will hold a review class for the new SAT beginning April 20. The classes will be held for eight weeks from 6-9 p.m. Thursdays at the campus in Lehman Town- ship. The course will cover prep- aration for the critical reading/ writing and math exams, and will include a sample essay for the writing component. The course is designed to provide information on the current format of the SAT and will pro- vide students with test-taking techniques to help them realize their full potential. Topics will address increased reading comprehension and strategies for sentence comple- tion for the critical reading section. The writing component will cover grammar and me- chanics and effective essay writing. Students will be in- troduced to a math grid and learn when to use a calculator on the test. Instructors will also cover the advantages and disad- vantages of guessing. The cost is $289 for the full review, including critical read- ing/writing and math. Film series at PSU W-B Penn State Wilkes-Barre is holding its “Film, Food and Fun Facts” series at 6:30 p.m. each Thursday in the science build- ing on the campus in Lehman which are open to the public, look at the contribution of Northeastern Pennsylvanians have made to the film industry. The series is offered in the spring and fall at Penn State Wilkes-Barre and is moderated by Penn State communication arts instructor Bill Bachman. The cost is $10 per film for adults; $5 per film for students. For information about the other films in the series, call 675-9143. Gardening course available at college College Misericordia is of- fering non-credit course that will give students of all ages an opportunity to develop a green thumb for gardening. The Garden of Possibilities course allows students to dis- cover the tools that are needed to build a greener, healthier lawn, plant and maintain col- . orful flower beds and how to properly care for various plants. Students also will learn about fertilizers and chemicals, soil testing and the lifecycle of root- eating grubs. The six-week will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. each Wednes- day from April 19 through May 24 in the MacDonald Art Gal- lery. The instructor is Barbara Anderson and the course costs $60. Nursing open house at Misericordia College Misericordia, home of the oldest certified nursing program in Northeastern Penn- sylvania, will hold an open house for adult learners to learn more about the opportunities in the graduate nursing program. The open house will be held at 5:30 p.m. April 19 in the McGo- wan Room of the Mary Kintz Bevevino Library. The deadline to register is April 12.
