The orga- nizers for this year’s event are Caroline Boris, Chris Jones and Megan Devine. The cost to participate is $10. Anyone who raises at least $50 will receive a T-shirt. The public is invited to participate or watch from the shore. If taking the plunge, arrive early for regis- tration. Baked goods and T- shirts will be available. The cost is $5 per person. Dallas lodge plans breakfast George M. Dallas Lodge No. 531, Free and Accepted Masons, will hold an all-you-can-eat breakfast from 8-11 a.m. Sunday, March 12 at the Dallas Amer- ican Legion on Route 415 in Dallas. Tickets are $5 and pro- ceeds will benefit local charities. The breakfast will include scrambled eggs, hash browns, pancakes, sausage, danishes, coffee, tea, juice and hot choco- late. Fashion show set for March 19 Dallas students Theresa Heintz and Mackenzie Hogue will hold a fashion show at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, March 19 in the Dallas High School auditorium. Doors will open at 7 p.m. The cost for admission is $1 for stu- dents and $3 for adults. Pro- ceeds from the fashion show, which is being held as part of a senior completion project, bene- fits the mini-thon club at Dallas. The club assists kids who have cancer. Bird-watching trip at Kirby Park The Greater Wyoming Valley Audubon Society will hold a bird-watching field trip at 8 a.m. Sunday, March 26 at Kirby Park. The group meets in the lot of the former King’s Department Store and Reilly’s Classic Car Museum near the intersection of Market Street and Dawes Avenue, Kingston. Babysitting course to be held at library A babysitting course offered by the American Red Cross will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 18 in the Com- munity Room of the Back Mountain Memorial Library on Huntsville Road in Dallas. The class is open to boys and girls ages 11-15. The class will pro- vide them with the skills and confidence needed to become a care provider. Participants will learn how to perform first aid, understand how to get professional medical help fast, identify common safety hazards and prevent in- juries, perform basic care rou- tines like diapering, feeding and dressing, handle bedtime issues and more. A babysitter’s hand- book will be included and dis- tributed at the program. A $40 course fee is due at the time of registration. Checks should be made out to the American Red Cross. Speakers series at Misericordia The inaugural Spring Speak- ers Series at College Miser- icordia will feature four faculty lecturers discussing topics rang- ing from the arts to the sci- ences. New tax bills mailed in Dallas A new style tax bill has been mailed to Dallas Borough resi- dents. The bill is the result of a new data system at the Luzerne County Courthouse. The bar- coded bill must be presented along with your payment to tax collector Mark Van Etten. Residents who do not receive a bill should call Van Etten at 675-1878. Residents requesting copies of receipts will need to send a self-addressed, stamped envelope along with their pay- ment. Receipts will be returned stamped paid. Tax payments made before April 15 will re- ceive a two percent discount. KING, QUEEN CROWNED AT THE MEADOWS The Meadows Nursing Center, Dallas, recently held its annual Valentine's Day celebration. LYNN CAPTURES SECOND CHAMPIONSHIP Sweet Valley resident Britta- ny Lynn recently won the championship in the Beginner Walk/Trot 12 and under West- ern division at the Five County Show Series. It marks the sec- ond consecutive year Lynn has won a championship at the event. She shows and owns a 12-year-old registered quarter horse named Super Reality. Dallas resident Kyle Gallagher was one of several hundred high school students from around the country who recently took part in a leadership development conference in Washington, D.C. Giunta named to King's post Dallas resident Joseph Giunta was recently appointed Director of Major Gifts and Planned Giving in the institutional ad- vancement division at King’s College in Wilkes-Barre. Giunta received his degree from King’s College in business adminis- tration. He resides in Dallas with his wife Marty. Gable joins U.S. Navy Jesse Gable, a 1993 graduate of Lake-Lehman High School, recently enlisted in the United States Navy under the Delayed Entry Program. The program allows recruits to enter the Navy and take up to one year to complete prior commitments. Using recruiters as mentors, the program helps recruits ease into the transition from civilian to military life.
