STUDENTS RECEIVE AWARDS AT LAKE-LEHMAN JUNIOR HIGH Eighth grade student s at Lake-Leh LAKE-LEHMAN STUDENTS HELP TOTS FOR TOTS PROGRAM £7 ET who participated in Youth Orga- nized for Disaster Awareness recently visited the Salvation Army in Wilkes-Barre to help with the Toys for Tots campaign. The Salvation Army is a nonprofit organization that helps anyone in need in all situations. The students spent the‘day sorting and bagging-toys forneedy families in our area. The YODA students who participated in this charitable event acted as a Santa Claus for children in need of a better Christmas. The Salvation Army provided lunch for the students from its canteen truck, which assists in disaster relief. Receiving a meal from volunteers gave the students the opportunity to realize what it is like to be in a situation where they need help. For the weeks up to this voluntary event, members of the Building Hope Club, along with the rest of the school, collected toys for the Toys for Tots program. Pictured are the Lake-Lehman eighth grade students who participated in the charitable event. The teachers at Lake-Lehman Junior High School recently chose the students of the month for @®. The awards are based on scholarship, leadership, and citizenship. Seminary Local students in fourth through seventh grade who do not attend Wyoming Seminary Lower School may register for the school’s Middle School Merit Scholarship Exam, which will be held at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 4 at the school’s campus in Forty Fort. Registration will begin at 8 a.m. and the exam will conclude atfla.m. Up to five half-tuition scholar- ships will be awarded to students who display outstanding per- formance on the competitive exam. Need-based financial aid is also available beyond the award. Scholarship winners who remain good academic standing will Peceive the same amount each year through the eighth grade. Students in eighth and ninth grade who do not attend Wyom- ing Seminary Preparatory School in Kingston may register for the annual Trustee Academic Schol- arship Exam, which will be given at 9:30 a.m. Feb. 4 at the school’s Kingston campus. Regis- tration will begin at 9 a.m. Stu- dents must complete an applica- tion no later than Friday, Jan. 27. There is no registration fee. College Misericordia hosting special program College Misericordia will host an Adult Learner and Transfer Night from 5-7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 9 in the Kennedy Room of the Banks @ for Student Life. The rogram is open to adult learners and transfer students interested in obtaining more information about the school’s undergradu- ate and graduate programs. Guests may drop in at their con- venience and speak with repre- sentatives from admissions, adult education, financial aid and faculty. Information from the extensive spring and summer course schedule will also be available for anyone interested in registering for individual courses. Common topics include equitable credit transfer, credit for life experiences, financial aid eligi- bility, evening and weekend class schedules, accelerated formats, certificate programs and online courses. Language Institute offers knitting class The Language Institute will hold the class “Knitting in the Andes” - the first of a series of cultural enrichment classes - from 6:30- 8:30 p.m. each Monday from Jan. 23 through Feb. 20 at Wilkes University. The 10-hour course will introduce students to the countries that make up the western regions of South America, the indigenous people who inhabit the area, and the methods, patterns, garments, ‘and history of knitting in this area. Students will complete a knitting project by the end of the course, using native patterns and de- signs. The class is open to knit- ters of all skill levels.
