Sunday, December 18, 2005 COMMUNITY THE POST PAGES ALLET ‘Continued from Page 1 ‘Dallas resident Elisabeth Har- iris, the children’s rehearsal co- ‘ordinator for the show. “The ‘Nutcracker’ has wonderful mu- sic. Tchaikovsky's score is ‘amazing. The young and the old enjoy it every year. It really puts everyone into the spirit.” ! The Back Mountain dancers, who range in.age from 9-16, were part of a large number of ‘dancers from the eastern part of the state who auditioned for roles in the performance. ! “Im really excited for the i Back Mountain kids,” said Har- ris. “We have some very good dancers and this is a great op- portunity for them.” A local 10-year-old was select- ed to dance with the Russian ballet company for the second time. This year, Renee Macku- nis was cast as a mouse. “It’s really cool because they are from a different country and they are professionals,” said Mackunis, who takes dance les- sons at Joan Harris dance stu- dio in Dallas. “I did it again this year because it was really fun last year.” Even though she gets butter- flies when she’s on stage, Mack- unis says she likes the experi- ence because she gets to hang out with new people from other dance studios. Shavertown resident Lee Ric- cetti has been involved in the production for five consecutive years. This year, the 15-year-old was cast as a butterfly. “Me and a bunch of my friends wanted to take part in a professional show,” Riccetti said. “It’s a once-in-a-lifetime chance. It’s exciting to see pro- fessional dancers because it helps you want to dance.” According to the Moscow Ballet’s Web site, more than 45,000 children have performed along side of these profession- als since 2003. “My first two years I was a party guest, then a mouse and | BMBPA DONATES TO CHILDREN’S SPREE & | The Back Mountain Business land Professional Association @ donated $1,500 to Welp the Rotary Club of Dallas thold “its annual children’s ‘Christmas shopping spree. I had the most fun as a Russian, but you can’t always get the part you want.” The 14-year-old has been tak- ing various types of dance for roughly a decade. She said the most beneficial aspect of being a part of the show was the audi- tion process, because she thought it was good to know what they are looking for when they cast. Harris, a dance teacher for more than 20 years at the Joan Harris Center for Gifted/Tal- ented, said the most challeng- ing part of her position was to make sure the students were re- hearsed. “(They're scheduled) to have only one rehearsal on the morn- ing of the shows with the Rus- sians,” Harris said. “There were a lot of new students this time. I enjoyed working with the chil- dren. The energy is so high when the kids are looking up to these professional dancers.” CHURCH BRIEFS Special music set for Christmas Eve Kristen Faerber Celusniak will provide special Christmas Eve music during a worship and communion service at 10:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 24 at Trinity Presbyterian Church.
