STUDENTS RAISE MONEY FOR READING PROGRAMS As part of its annual Scholastic Book Fair, Wyoming Seminary Lower School students from the Back Mountain recently participated in the “One for Books" program. The program donates up to a million books to three non-profit groups devoted to improving reading skills among under- privileged children, including those affected by Hurricane Katrina. For every dollar donated by a Lower School student, a book was donated to Kids in Distressed Situations, the National Center for Family Literacy, or Toys for Tots. The students raised $200. Some of the students who partic- ipated in the program, from left, first row are Jake Kolessar, Shavertown; and Jacob Schall, Hunlock Creek. Second row: Aashka Damani, Mountain Top; Amy Shick, Mountain Top; and An- drew Levandoski, Dallas. KUNKLE Continued from Page 1 open house. The event fea- tured a smoke house where children learned about fire safety, presentations by Life- Flight, the state police, Lu- zerne and Wyoming county 911, Medic 601, Northeast Pa- ramedics, and Smokey Bear from the Forestry Department. But perhaps the highlight of the weekend was the special recognition dinner, which was attended by 150 people. Sever- al former company members came from out of state to at- tend the event. “It was a great night,” said Dodson, who has been chief for the last 34 years. “We had some members attend who were members when the company was formed in the 1940s and ‘50s. There was a lot of plan- ning and work that went into the dinner. Everyone did their part, the firemen and their wives.” Dodson has been a member of the Kunkle Volunteer Fire Co. since he was 16 years old. He's glad he stayed around long enough to see the new sta- tion. “It’s been a long time com- ing,” he said. “It’s a great facil- ity. I'm very happy to be a part of it.” Curves The power to amaze yourself. ™ Wilkes-Barre Twp 270-6622 Plains 270-4554 Nanticoke 740-2777 Hanover 270-5588 Lehman 674-5588 freee ee Fe em Your home deserves a METAL ROOF Free quotes & samples 0 down, easy payments 1-800-761-8622! | (keep this number) | BiLo Oil Co.
