KT Raiders advance C and D teams to championship The Kingston Township Raid- ers won two of three games dur- ing the opening round of the Wyoming Valley West Youth Football Conference. The Raid- ers C and D teams will compete in the conference championship games today at Lackawanna County Stadium. The D division (5-7-year-olds) championship game between Kingston Township and Forty Fort will begin at 11 a.m. The Raiders take a 10-0-1 record into the contest, while the Flyers are 9-1-1. The teams met twice dur- ing the regular season. The teams played to a tie the first time, while Kingston Township won the next meeting. In what is arguably the best matchup of the playoffs, the Raiders square off against the Dallas Junior Mounts in the C di- vision championship at 12:15 p.m. Both teams take a 10-1 re- cord into the game. The teams played each other twice during the regular season, with each team registering a win. The game proved how much the Raiders improved this season. Three weeks ago, Swoyersville defeated Kingston Township, 32-8. The Raider of- fense was able to move the ball well against the Sailors, but was unable to reach the endzone. Kingston Township drove inside the Swoyersville 5-yard line, but could not score. : C DIVISION The Raiders C will make a re- peat appearance in the confer- ence championship game thanks to a 22-6 victory against the Swoyersville Sailors. Matt Dog- gett scored three touchdowns as Kingston Township improved its record to 10-1. The Raiders took the opening possession 62 yards for the game's first score. Matt Doggett scored on a 9-yard run following Ed Meszczynski, Joe Stier and Kyle Kotulski into the end zone. Doggett added the two-point “Give STYLING conversion run that staked the Raiders to an early 80 lead. Swoyersville made the score 8-6, but Josh Weaver made a nice de- fensive play on the two-point conversion. J.T. Carey and Meszczynski came up with a big defensive play late in the first half, combin- ing on a sack to force a Sailor fumble. Doggett recovered the fumble on the Sailor 7-yard line with less than a minute remaining. Doggett scored the touchdown and added the two-point conver- sion to make it 16-6 at halftime. With the Raiders kicking off to begin the second half, Oliveri ex- ecuted a beautiful onside kick that was recovered by Shaffer. The Raiders followed that up with a 33-yard drive in six plays. Corey Patrick kept the drive alive with a 15-yard run and Dog- gett scored this third touch- down. Robert Wargo turned in the defensive performance of the year by recording three sacks, making three tackles for losses and forcing two fumbles. D DIVISION Tanner Gattuso and Peter Capitano each scored two touch- downs as the Raiders cruised to a 33-6 playoff win against the Swoyersville Sailors. Bret Storrs began the scoring on the opening play with a 60- yard touchdown run. Gattuso added the two-point conversion. Storrs recovered a Sailor fum- ble which set up a 48-yard touch- down run by Gattuso, who also ran for the two-point conversion to make it 16-0. Capitano and Gattuso com- bined to run for 51 yards before Gattuso finished off the drive with a 30-yard rushing touch- down. Ricky Morgan, David Ed- wards, Nick Mathers and Kyle Piskorick ran for key yardage to set up touchdown runs of 30 and 26 yards by Capitano. B DIVISION Brett Wanek scored four touch- downs as the Dallas Junior Mounts advanced to the cham- pionship game with a 36-14 win against the Duryea Wildcats. Ryan Hanson started the game with a 72-yard kickoff return for a touchdown to get the Junior Mounts rolling. The offensive line once again did a superb job controlling the line of scrimmage and paving the way for more than 350 rushing yards rushing. Wanek added a 2- point conversion run to his four touchdowns. Ryan Hanson also scored on a 2-point conversion run while Billy Dixon completed a pass to Alex Barrillo for another 2-pointer. The Dallas defense held the Wildcats in check for most of the game. Eric Anderson and Nate Vario put a lot of pressure up the middle while Jordan Mullen re- corded a sack and recovered a fumble. Garrett Artsma had interception for Dallas and Vario blocked a punt to set up a touch- downs. C DIVISION Mark Michno and Ryan Zapot- icky each scored two touch- downs as Dallas posted a 24-12 win against the Kingston Husk- ies. After a scoreless first quarter, Johnny Hutchins recovered a fumble to set up a 57-yard touch- down run by Zapoticky. The score gave Dallas a 6-0 halftime lead. In the second half, Michno scored touchdowns on runs of 37 and 35 yards, while Zapoticky: added another score with a 52- yard run. Kyle Gregory scored two touchdowns for the Huskies. The Dallas defense had several standouts. Mitchell Benson had one of his best games of the year with several sacks and Tyler Alba broke up two key Kingston pas- ses.
