CIVIC BRIEFS Library seeking student worker The Back Mountain Memorial Library is looking for a student page to work part-time at the library on Huntsville Road in Dallas. The student must be at least 16 years old and willing to work two evenings during the week and every other Saturday. Anyone interested should apply at the library’s front desk. Red Cross holding two blood drives The American Red Cross is holding two blood drives in the Back Mountain during the month of October. The first will be held from 1-6 p.m. Oct. 11 at St. Therese’s Church on Pioneer Avenue in Shavertown. The second will be held from 2-7 p.m. Oct. 13 at the Church of Christ in Sweet Valley. The ladies of the church will serve refreshment to donors. Blood supplies are very low and the Red Cross depends on its faithful donors to help meet the demand for blood. Anyone 17 years old, weighing at least 110 pounds and in good health is eligible to donate. Donations may be made every 56 days. For information about other area blood drives, call 1-800- GIVE LIFE. American Legion holding meeting The Daddow-Isaacs American Legion Post 672 will hold its regular monthly meeting at 8 p.m. Oct. 14 at the post home on Route 415. Plans for the up- coming Veteran's Day breakfast will be discussed and arrange- ments will be made for the annual Turkey Raffle. Member- ship dues for 2006 are due. Harry Owens will speak about the historical significance of the Back Mountain railroads.
