Recycling drop-off center open Sept. 10 The voluntary recycling drop- off center for Lake Township will be accepting items on the second Saturday of every month. The following items may be dropped off: aluminum and bi-metal cans; clear, brown and green glass; and plastic No. 1 and No. 2. No motor oil contain- ers or scrap aluminum can be accepted. Newspaper will also be collected if packed in paper bags with glossy inserts re- PUBLIC MEETING " The Back Mountain Council of Governments will hold a public information meeting at 7 p.m. Sept. 15 at the Kingston Township Municipal Building, 180 East Center Street in Shavertown. The meeting will discuss the multi- municipal open space greenways outdoor recreation master plan for Dallas, Dallas Township, King- ston Township and Lehman Township The plan is being funded by the @: Department of onservation and Natural Re- sources with assistance from Luzerne County and the partici- pating BMACOG municipalities. The planning is being directed by the Back Mountain Council of Governments, which has hired Cahill Associates, Inc. of West Chester to perform the neces- sary technical work. All meeting attendees will automatically become members of the OS- GORMP advisory committee. The purpose of the meeting is to explain the goals and objectives of the open space and recreation plan in more detail. Draft goals nd objectives will be presented @- discussed. Some of the top- Cs to be discussed include the need for more open space in Back Mountain communities; the establishment of greenways to link existing or potential open space, recreation, and cultural facilities; the adequacy of out- door recreational facilities; the possible expansion of ecotourism and other economic benefits; and other recreation and open space issues. Tourney, clambake set The annual charity golf classic and clambake sponsored by the Rotary Club of Dallas will begin with a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 19 at Irem Temple Country Club. Proceeds will ben- efit many local charities sup- §{ ported by the | Rotary Club. Sponsorships are available for $100 and signs will be displayed Martin moved. Fall holiday sale to benefit library A fall Halloween and Thanks- giving sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 17 in the Community Room of the Back Mountain Memorial Library. The library is located on Hunts- ville Road in Dallas. The sale will feature an as- sortment of fall wreaths, center- pieces, wall hangings, indoor and outdoor decorations, light- ed Halloween novelties and costumes, Thanksgiving deco- rations and tableware, and other items. The sale will benefit the Back Mountain Memorial Library and will be conducted by members of the Halloween fund-raising committee. For more informa- tion, call the library at 675-1182 Civil War group holding meetings The Wyoming Valley Civil War Round Table will hold two presentations, including Kim Glemboski’s Center for Anti- Slavery Studies and the Under- ground Railroad on Sept. 8, and the Tony DeLacy’s Licensed Battlefield Guide on Oct. 13. The Civil War Round Table holds its monthly meetings at 7 p.m. on the second Tuesday of STYLIN each month in the lower level of the Daddow-Isaacs American Legion on Route 415 in Dallas. This is not a reenactment group. Anyone interested in becoming a member or learning more about the Round Table is invited to attend a meeting. Starfires dance set for Sept. 17 An Evening with the Original Starfires dance will be held from 6 p.m. to midnight, Sept. 17 at Stax & Co., Route 415 in Dallas. The music will begin at 7 p.m. The event is part of the annual Dallas Days Weekend.
