Bill Lewis of the Dallas United Methodist Church talks to a group of children about bread, fish and Jesus during the Bible school. VBS Continued from Page 1 teers. By our coming together, the children meet friends from other churches and it’s less drain- ing on the parents.” ‘Resident “snack master” Kris- ten Andrews proudly explained that even the snacks are related to the theme of the day. For example, on Monday’s theme of “God Listens,” the chil- dren were treated to soft “Prayer Pretzels.” Huntington explained that the children were taught that the crossing of the arms of the pretzel is symbolic of the way we fold our arms in prayer. “Oh, but these pretzels, are dif- ferent,” she joked. The children were encouraged to decorate each pretzel using mini choco late kisses representing God's love, as well as Sweet Tart and Sour Patch Kids candies. “They remind us that God listens to us when we are sweet, as well as when our behavior might be tart and sour,” she said. “My favorite thing here is the snack time,” said 5-year old Claire Bechter “They're yum- my.” “I like the games,” added Sa- mantha Sorokin.” One of the Zip- py Zebras group, David Schuster, said that he likes to meet new friends. At noon, the busy morning comes to a close, but the teenage volunteers were invited to re main until 1:30 p.m. to take part in their own version of VBS. When the morning session came to a close, the volunteers were asked if they were tired. “Not yet,” said Ziegler with a laugh, as she held the door open for the returning parents. “We're still going on our adrenaline.” .
