D16 MINOR LEAGUE BASEBALL FORTY FORT, July 12 — Brian Stepniak had four hits, including a double, as Back Mountain National defeated Edwardsville-Larksville, 17-5, in a District 16 Minor League baseball game. Alex Barilla and JT. Carter added three hits, including a home run by Barilla. Winning pitcher Josh McEntee helped his own cause with a pair of hits. BMT National 13, Kingston 6 FORTY FORT, July 9 — Brian Stepniak struck out eight and allowed three hits as National opened with a win. Stepniak also had a solo homer and two singles. Stephens struck out eight and went 3-for4 at the plate with an RBI. E.J. Costatino drove in three runs for Back Mountain. Jason Schilling and Shane Dunn each knocked in a pair of runs. D16 LITTLE LEAGUE SOFTBALL NANTICOKE, July 13 — Winning pitcher Sarah Konopki turned in a gutsy performance, working out of several bases- loaded jams, and Meghan Martin had the game-winning single as Back Mountain posted an 8-7, extra-innings win against Nanticoke. The win forced a championship game against previously unbeaten Nanticoke Thursday night in Dallas. The game ended after press deadline and the result will be published in next week’s edition of The Post. Trailing 8-6, Nanticoke loaded the bases with no outs on an error, a bunt single and a fielder’s choice. After walking in one run, Konopki struck out two batters and got the final bat- ter to ground out on a come- backer. It was the 10th Nanticoke batter who grounded out to Konopki during the 8 inning game. Kristen Baker and Mary Kate Osick each had two hits for Back Mountain, while Sara Skammer and Martin made outstanding defensive plays with the winning run on third base to end the sixth and seventh innings, respectively. Back Mountain 13, Mountain Top 3 WRIGHT TWP, July 11 — Winning pitcher Kristen Baker threw a four-hitter and Sarah Konopki led the offense with four hits and five RBI as Back Mountain defeated Mountain Top, 13-3," in the District 16 Little League softball losers bracket final. Baker struck out eight in going the distance. Sara Skammer added three hits and Meghan Martin con- tributed a pair of hits for the winners. Back Mountain 19, Harveys Lake/Bob Horlacher 6 DALLAS, July 9 — Tori Cramer and Alexa Decker each had three hits as Back Mountain won the losers brack- et semifinal. Winning pitcher Sara Skammer had two hits as did Sarah Konopki and Kristen Baker. Kristi Komrowski had two hits and Ashley Inman dou- bled for Harveys Lake/Horlacher. Back Mountain 13, Newport/Northwest 3 (4) NEWPORT TWP., July 8 — Sara Kohli allowed just two hits and struck out seven to earn the win in Back Mountain's 10-run rule shortened game against Newport/Northwest. Kristen Baker led Back Mountain with three hits, and Sarah Konopki, Sarah Skammer, Alexa Decker and Kohli each added a pair. Horlacher/Harveys Lake 13, Plains 12 PLAINS TWP., July 8 — Schyler Yatsko doubled and tripled to help Bob Horlacher/Harveys Lake to the comeback win over Plains, which led 50 in the second inning. Diana Deprimo added two hits for the winners while teammates Kristy Komrowski, Ashley Inman and Katie Dructor each had a double. Nicole Snyder, Ashley Metz and Katelyn Wojcik added singles. Back Mountain 15, West Pittston/Exeter/Wyoming 2 (4) WEST WYOMING, July 7 — Sarah ‘Konopki entered the game with one out and the bases loaded in the first inning - and didn’t allow a hit the rest of the game for Back Mountain. Konopki, who combined with Kristen Baker for the not-hitter, struck out nine to pick up the win. Baker had three hits including a double and triple, while Alexa Decker had three hits including a double and Meghan Martin chipped in three hits. Morgan Decker added two singles and Morgan Kane had a two-run double for Back Mountain. Back Mountain 14, Newport/Northwest 13 Morgan Kane hit a bases- clearing triple in the top of the sixth inning to lift Back Mountain. Kane finished with five hits, including the go-ahead triple, a pair of doubles and seven RBI. Nicole Giampietro came in to pitch for Back Mountain after Newport/Nanticoke jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the first inning. She allowed only three more runs on two hits. Morgan Kane had a double and three RBI, and Tanner Englehart had a pair of hits with two RBI to lead Back Mountains offense against Mountain Top.
