Head Start now accepting applications Head Start is now accepting applications for the 2005-2006 school year. Applications will be taken for the following Head Start centers: Dallas, Lake-Lehman, Lehman- Jackson, Mehoopany, and Tunkhannock on July 12 from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church (located near Subway on Rt. 118 and Rt. 415). Children must be 3 or 4 years old on or before the kindergarten cutoff date in the school district where they reside. In order to complete the application, the following documents are needed: proof of child’s age, child’s current shot record, Social Security numbers for child and family, documentation of child’s diag- nosed disability, proof of med- ical insurance coverage, and proof of income from the previ- ous 12 months (Income tax form, W-2 form, pay stubs, child support, TANF, SSI income statement). The scholarships are a new component of Pennsylvania's Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) program, which allows corporations and busi- nesses to earn state tax credits by contributing to organiza- tions such as the Diocese of Scranton Scholarship Foundation. PNC Bank is among a num- ber of area corporations that have supported the Scholarship Foundation since its inception three years ago. project. Most recently, PNC donated $55,000 for tuition assistance in diocesan programs. Overall, more than 3,000 stu- ‘dents in grades K-12 have received awards over the past three years through the Scholarship Foundation. This was made possible by the con- tributions of nearly 60 local companies. Donations to the Scholarship Foundation have now surpassed $4 million, including nearly $930,000 for the 2005/2006 school year. Families must submit an application to be considered for tuition assistance. Families will be ranked by financial need with- in the school and the awards will be considered separately from the K-12 awards; thus, a family not awarded a K-12 award may still be eligible to receive an award for their pre- K student.
