be BACK MOUNTAIN LIBRARY AUCTION, SUNDAY, JULY 3, 2005 ® Nod e é 59th BACK MOUNTAIN MEMORIAL LIBRARY AUCTION Donations swell § basket booth By CAMILLE FIOTI Post Correspondent There’ll be more baskets to choose from at this year’s auc- tion than last year, thanks to many generous donations, said Basket Booth Chairwoman Neela Patel. The Friends of the Back Mountain Memorial Library sponsors the popular booth. “The baskets kept coming,” she said. “I didn’t have to call too many people.” Patel said she planned for around 20 bas- kets, but so far 27 have been donated. Most baskets are val- ued between $50 and $75 but some are over $100. She said the committee has also received approximately $450 in cash donations. Chances are $1 each, six for $5 or 15 for $10. Coffee cans will be placed in front of each basket and purchasers can put all of their tickets in the can in front of their favorite basket or they can divide them among as many baskets as they like. Drawings will take place on Sunday. Here's a sampling of the wide variety of themed baskets up for chance: family fun, bath and beauty, Vera Bradley purses, Red Barons souvenirs and tick- ets, Halloween, Christmas, money machine, I-Pod shuffle, garden supplies, travel games, lottery tickets, gift certificates, tools, summer paperback books and state dollars. Patel became involved with the several years ago after sell- ing her business, MailBoxes, Etc. in the Back Mountain Shopping Center. “I had to sell my business because I have a special needs child, and had to go back and forth to Philadelphia,” she said. “I've been doing a lot of run- ning around the last couple of weeks.” Some of the monetary donations had to be used to purchase baskets to put the products in, and Joanie Evans and Elva Valentine shrink- wrapped the baskets. This is Patel’s first year as the chairwoman. She wouldn’t have been able to accomplish what she had if it weren't for the help of co-chairwoman, Mary Lou Grant and former chairwoman Beth Rosenthal, she said.
