{ i i | The Dallas Post Sunday, June 26, 2005 OBITUARIES JOHN MAURICE ROGERS Army veteran was active community member John Maurice Rogers, 86, of Shavertown, died June 15, 2005, in Hospice Care of the VNA Inpatient Unit at Heritage House, Wilkes-Barre. John (Jack) was born July 24, 1918, in Wilkes-Barre, son of the late John and Sarah (Messinger) Rogers. He was a graduate of E.L. Meyers High School, 1936. Mr. Rogers was a United States Army veteran, who had served as a private with the 1st Battalion, 20th Infantry. John was a former machinist with Johnson Engineering Company and served as plant engineer for Native Textile, Co., Dallas, retiring in February 1984. John was an active member and participant in many organi- zations with include, Shavertown United Methodist Church; Orpheus Choral Society; Irem Temple Chanters; George M. Dallas Lodge No. 531; F&AM; Irem Temple; AAONMS, Wilkes- Barre; Dieu Le | Veut Commandery No. 45; Shekinah Royal Arch Chapter 182; Mt. Horeb Council No. 34; American Legion, Dallas; Veterans of Foreign Wars, Kingston; and Kiwanis Club, Back Mountain. After 1990, he served as a volunteer with the American Red Cross. His wife of 38 years, Betty Jane Llewellyn Rogers, preced- ed him in death in 1986. He was a loving and devoted hus- band, father, and grandfather, who enjoyed meeting new peo- ple and helping others. Surviving are his sons, J. Mark Rogers, Shavertown; . Alan Rogers and his wife, Jane, Hampton, VA; Keith Rogers, Shavertown; and grandchil- dren, Jason Mathew, Alan Jeffrey, and Sarah Jane. If you judge the friendship and love of others as wealth, then Jack was a very rich man indeed. Interment, Chapel Lawn Memorial Park, Dallas Township. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or Hospice Care of the VNA at Heritage House, Wilkes-Barre. PETER P. STUKOWSKI Rexall owner and pharmacist Peter P. Stukowski, 97, died June 19, 2005, at Tyler Memorial Hospital in Tunkhannock. He was born on June 29, 1907 in Plymouth, a son of the late Joseph and Charlotte Stukowski. He attended Plymouth schools and was a graduate of the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy. In 1946, Peter moved to Wyoming County, having pur- chased the Nicholson Rexall - Pharmacy, which he owned and operated through several decades. There was an old- fashioned soda fountain in the pharmacy that was popular with generations of his cus- tomers. He was Honored by Rexall as one of their top phar- macists. He was also active in the Nicholson Rotary and was a supporter of the Kosciuszko Foundation. In 1994 he moved from Nicholson to Tunkhannock Manor where he resided until he died. He was preceded in death by sisters and brothers. He is sutvived by numerous nephews and nieces. GEORGE LEO SCHILLING, III Harveys Lake man George Leo Schilling, ITI, 92, of Harveys Lake, died June 17, 2005, at Lakeside Nursing Center, Harveys Lake. Born in Pittsburgh, he was a son of the late George L. and Agnes Egan Schilling, Jr. Prior to his retirement, he was a self-employed machin- ist in Emmaus. He was a member of Our Lady of Victory Church, Harveys Lake, and a former member of Knights of Columbus and Moose Lodge. His was preceded in death by hi wife, the former Rosalie Martin; son, George, IV; and brothers, Paul and Robert. Surviving is a son, Thomas and daughter-in-law, Claire of Albrightsville; grandsons, Thomas, Jr. and George, V; and great-grandchildren, Katie and Allison. Interment, Mount Olivet Cemetery, Carverton. CINDY K. EVANS 1971 Lake-Lehman grad- uate Cindy K. Evans, age 52, of Sweet Valley, passed away June 16, 2005, peacefully, surround- ed by her family, at home. She was born in the U.S. Naval Hospital in Bethesda, MD, on April 5, 1953. She was the daughter of Richard and Joan * Culver, Sweet Valley. She graduated from Lake- Lehman High School, Class of 1971, where she participated in the band, playing the bass clar- inet. She was honored with the John Philip Sousa Award and qualified to be a member of State Band. She was also a member of the National Honor Society. She was an active member of the Sweet Valley Church of Christ, where she was the choir director for more than 25 years. She was also a member of the Women’s Fellowship. Cindy was employed by Mr. Z’s, Dallas, formerly Weis Markets, for 12 years as a cake decorator. She then moved on to be employed by RCN, Dallas, for seven years. Cindy was the beloved wife of Barry A. Evans for 32 years and was the loving mother to Renne and Rhonda. Cindy also left behind one brother, Keith Richard Culver of Kingston, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Cindy was a lov- ing and compassionate person to all who knew her and will be sadly and greatly missed by all her family and many friends. Interment, Maple Grove Cemetery, Pikes Creek.
