20 The Dallas Post SCHOOL Sunday, June 26, 2005 College camp for occupational therapy The Occupational Therapy Department at College Misericordia is sponsoring the third annual Career Exploration Camp for Occupational Therapy, July10-13. The camp will introduce the profession to high school students interested in a career in occupational ther- apy. It is a residential camp with a nominal fee. Campers will stay at the residence halls at College Misericordia, interact with faculty and students of the occupational therapy program, and visit several community sites where occupational thera- py is practiced. Anyone interested in attend- ing the camp can request an application from Stephanie Winsock at 674-6391, swinsock@misericordia.edu, or follow the links to the Occupational Therapy depart- ment homepage from the College Misericordia webpage, www.misericordia.edu. Registration is limited and will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. College Misericordia also offers other summer camps and courses, including kids’ camps, sports camps, graduate and undergrad- uate courses. Seminary students win music honors Five Wyoming Seminary Upper School stu- dents from the Back Mountain were selected to perform in district, regional and state band and orchestra festivals. The festivals are organized by the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association and honor students for excellence in voice and instrumental music. Sophomore Megan Messersmith, Dallas, was named to the Luzerne County Honors Band, District Band and Regional Band. Also named to the District Band were sophomore Chelsea Halsor, Dallas, and junior Andrew Rogers, Trucksville. Junior Scott Henry, Shavertown, and Rogers were named to District Jazz Band. Senior Caitlin Delehanty, Shavertown, was named to District Orchestra and Regional Orchestra. Rogers also was named to Regional Band, Regional Orchestra and All-State Concert Band. Poster winner Demetra Szatkowski, a sixth grade student at the Dallas Middle School, took first place in the Wyoming Valley Alcohol and Drug poster contest. Demetra will be recognized for her achievement at a Red Barons game on June 8. Sorber honored Melissa Sorber, a recent grad- uate of College Misericordia, received the Sr. M. Noreen Mulherin Award for Excellence in Elementary Education. The award was given to one elemen- tary education major for out- standing achievement during student teaching. Dr. Susan Tomascik presented the award at the annual Honors/Awards banquet at College Misericordia on May 19. Sorber showed outstanding achievement during student teaching and throughout her educational career at Misericordia. She was inducted into the International Education Honor Society, Kappa Delta Pi; she became a certified tutor, tutoring her peers in the subjects of psychol- at Misericordia smn Melissa Sorber ogy and biology; was a member of Chi Alpha Epsilon, the Act 101 honor society, and graduat- ed Magna Cum Lade. She is the daughter of Greg and Sharon Sorber, Sweet Valley.
