Tatedll HY TET Ty, SERS The Dallas Post COMMUNITY Sunday, June 26, 2005 Evans donates to Dallas Fire and Ambulance Kyle Evans, a junior at Dallas High School, completed his senior project by holding a horse show on May 22 at the Luzerne County Fair Grounds and donating all the proceeds to the allas Fire and Ambulance, Inc. Kyle was able to raise over $3,000 from donations for raf- les, sponsors, registration fees, and food stands. Kyle's chose his project because of the Dallas Ambulance response to two of the horse shows last year at the Luzerne County Fair Grounds, with one of those responses resulting in life flighting one of the participants. Kyle felt this was his way of saying thank you to the organization. Pictured are Evans and Ron Hall, Dallas Ambulance Chief. Among the gardens that will be featured is a his- toric Victorian property along Lake Street, Dallas. The tour will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will feature the cre- ative work of some of the area’s best-known professional land- scapers as well as the property owners themselves. A wide variety of properties have been chosen. In addition to the turn-of-the-century Victorian, they include a strik- ing contemporary in Chase surrounded by ornamental trees and shrubs that accent a designer, waterfall-fed swim- ming pool; a terraced Haddonfield Hills yard with pool accented by pin oaks, Japanese maples, and a variety of annuals and perennials; a spectacular rock garden near the Huntsville dam that can best be enjoyed from the win- dows of its contemporary home; and a beautiful Somerfields home accented by pools of fresh water fed by a designer waterfall. The Back Mountain Bloomers will also hold their flower show at the Huntsville property. A full schedule of workshops and demonstrations is planned. Offerings include Care and Division of Perennials, Care of Roses, The Value of Composting, Water Gardening, and Designing Waterfalls. Representatives of the Penn State Extension Office will also offer presentations. Back Mountain artist Sue Hand will be at work painting two of the houses on the tour. Those paintings will be offered at a silent auction. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Anthracite Scenic Trails Association. The trail crosses the featured Lake Street proper- ty and association members will be on hand there to talk about the association and its activities. The Bloomer’s 2003 Garden Tour attracted more than 500 people and raised over $5,000 for the Trails Association. A perfect Mother’s Day present, tickets are $20 per person and will be available by mail regis- tration, and at the featured homes on the day of the event. The Borough asks that resi- dents not place their green yard waste recycling containers curbside prior to the beginning of the collection season. As in previous years the road depart- ment will collect the equivalent of two 25-gallon green recycling containers on Tuesday and Wednesday weekly throughout the season. Yard waste volumes exceeding the two 25-gallon container limit will not be col- lected and property owners are asked to make arrangements with private haulers or land- scapers for the removal of large volumes of yard waste. Do not place containers or bundled yard waste within the road right-of-way. The Dallas Borough program is conducted in cooperation with the Dallas Area Municipal Authority.
