10 The Dallas Post SCHOOL Sunday, June 5, 2005 P&G Mehoopany awards scholarships Three area high school stu- dents have been awarded col- lege scholarships as part of the Procter & Gamble Fund Scholarship Competition. Local winners are: Andrew O'Hara, Wyoming Seminary; Carrie Olson, Tunkhannock; Coral Stredny, Dallas The program began in 1978 and more than $17 million has been awarded. This year, the program awarded 184 college scholarships to outstanding students from across the coun- try who are children of P&G employees. Each scholarship provides the winner with a $2,500 award for full-time study at an accredited college or university. Recipients are selected on the basis of their academic records, test scores, leadership qualifications, extra-curricular activities, work experience, and outside interests. Chris Clemson honored by Johns Hopkins The Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth (CTY) Christopher Clemson, a sixth grader at Dallas Middle School, as a student who has distinguished himself among the brightest academically gifted youth Awards Ceremony was held at Bucknell recently honored in the country. Pennsylvania. Young people who score at the 97th percentile or higher on school standardized tests are invit- ed by CTY to participate in a rigorous set of above-grade-level exams. Throughout this process, students challenge themselves academ- ically and provide further information about the verbal and mathematical reasoning abilities of bright learners. CTY’s mission is to identify America’s top students and provide programs, services, and resources to help them make the most of their enhanced academic abilities.
