Lake-Lehman 11, MMI 1 Apr. 28 — Sheree Horvath threw a no-hitter and struck out 15 of the 16 batters she faced in an 11-0 victory over Freeland MMI. Horvath walked one batter in her first no-hitter this sea- son and improved to 7-2. Offensively, Joscelyn Mahon had two hits and three RBI, Jess Maciecjzak had a two-run home run and scored three runs, and Sarah Navin drove in two runs. WRESTLERS Continued from Page 7 Matt Dragon was awarded the Tracey Slocum Memorial Award, which honors the sen- ior wrestler with the most career wins. During his final season at Lake-Lehman, Matt became the all-time leading . Wyoming Valley Conference wrestler in victories. He com- piled a career record of 166-11. He was a four-time District 2 champion, a three-time Northeast Regional champion, and a three-time state medal winner, where he finished fifth as a sophomore, third as a jun- ior and first as a senior. He fin- ished his senior season with a 45-0 mark. “Matt’s one of those unique individuals who comes along once in a lifetime,” said Lipski. In honor of his performance, the award will be renamed the Matt Dragon Award, in honor of Matt’s drive to become the best wrestler in Lake-Lehman history. Besides winning, the award will recognize team leadership, academics, setting lofty goals and becoming a state qualifier. “Matt has raised the bar for Lake-Lehman wrestling” quipped Lipski. “Watch for him to turn many heads on the collegiate level,” said Lipski. Jeremy Schutz was recog- nized as Lake-Lehman’s pin- ning machine. During his four- year stint, Jeremy compiled 99 pins, more than any L-L wrestler. He was a two-time District 2 champion and a three-time Northeast Regional qualifier. He compiled a career record of 133-22. Schutz will continue his edu- .cation and wrestling at Wilkes University. His parents, Jerry and Lisa, have been an integral part of Jeremy's success throughout the years. “He’s a great kid,” said volunteer assis- tant coach Bob Lipski. “One of the best I've ever seen.” Phil Lipski thanked the coaching staff aiding Lake- Lehman’s success. “From the elementary on up (Don and Kathy Carter) through junior high (Scott Carter and Alex Wilson), it’s a collaborative effort,” he said.
