Two Eagle Scouts for Troop 232 Troop 232, Gate of Heaven Church, Dallas, recently hon- ored Neil Bellanca and Sean Deats for attaining the Boy Scout of America’s highest honor, the Eagle Scout rank. Neil, the son of Elaine and Louis Bellanca, Kingston Township, began his scouting career in 1999, and has held leadership positions including Senior Patrol Leader. His Eagle project involved constructing a rest area on the Back Mountain Trail in memo- ry of Eagle Scout Ed Kupstas, Jr. His project involved clearing and grading the site, construct- ing a gravel pathway lined by natural stone, two mulched pic- nic areas with picnic tables and the installation of a park bench. His project represented a total of 140 man-hours to complete. Neil is junior at Bishop Hoban High School and has attained the Principal's List Honor Roll throughout his high school career, is a participant in Wilkes University’s Young Scholar Program, a member of the National Society of High School Scholars and is listed in Who's Who Among American High School Students. He is an editor for the 2005 yearbook and is a member of the ski club. He is a member of St. Therese’s Church where he is a junior lec- tor. Sean, son of Carol and Patrick Deats, Shavertown, began his scouting career in 1999, and has held various lead- ership positions including Senior Patrol Leader. Sean has earned more than 25 merit badges. His Eagle project involved developing a public safety proj- ect where all the fire hydrants in Kingston Township were pressure tested, color-coded and painted utilizing a coding system recognizable to the local fire departments. Sean is a junior at Bishop Hoban High School and had attained the Principal’s List Honor Roll throughout his high school career. He is a member of Gate of Heaven Church, Irem Golf Association, Bishop Hoban’s ski club, and is a mem- ber of the Back Mountain Youth Hockey Club. Land Trust dinner fea- tures Ebay auction of Brian Blight original Internationally renowned artist and King’s College Art Director Brian Blight has donated a signed original painting to the North Branch Land Trust. “I really believe in NBLT and what they’re doing” said Blight, “I'm happy to have my work used to raise money and awareness for land protection, wetland, and wildlife conservation.” To support its land conservation efforts, NBLT has scheduled a combi- meeting May 2. The plan is at an impor- tant juncture and public input will be vital . to the success of the long-range compre- hensive plan for future development in the Back Mountain. Dallas Borough curbside yard waste pickups The Dallas Borough Road depart- ment will begin weekly curbside yard waste collection the week of May 9, fol- lowing the conclusion of the ‘Dallas Borough annual spring cleanup. Residents should not place green yard waste recycling containers curb- side prior to the beginning of the col- lection season. As in previous years the road department will collect the equiv- alent of two 25-gallon green recycling containers on Tuesday and Wednesday weekly throughout the season. Yard waste volumes exceeding the two 25- gallon container limit will not be col- lected and property owners are asked to make arrangements with private haulers or landscapers for the removal of large volumes of yard waste..
