Staff report Apr. 11 — Dallas had just one hit against Jess Brenner, who has more than 700 career strikeouts, but scored two unearned runs in a 3-0 victory under the lights at the home field. “We came out early, kept swinging at strikes and put the ball in play,” Dallas coach Joyce Tinner said. Itt was the first victory over Nanticoke since Brenner took the mound four years ago for the Trojanettes. Brenner came ‘into the game with 26 strike- outs through two games. She had five Monday while the defense committed four errors. Dallas senior pitcher Lauren Collini struck out eight, walked one and allowed three hits to pick up the win. “She is a really good pitcher and they have a really good team,” Collini said. “I was actu- ally really nervous all day. But once we got out here, everyone was so excited. It was building up the entire day, and then I finally came out here and threw as hard as I could.” Sara Swepston had Dallas’ only hit, a first-inning triple which scored Kasey Corbett GIRLS SOFTBALL Lady Mounts finally get to nemesis FOR THE POST/CHARLOTTE BARTIZEK Sarah Sweptson slides into third base against Nanticoke. She took advantage of a throwing error to score the third run of the game. from first base. Corbett had drawn a two-out walk, the only one given up by Brenner. “The first pitch was right in there,” Swepston said. “Usually, her first pitch is right there, so it was a perfect pitch for me to hit.” The Mountaineers increased their lead to 2-0 in the third inning when Cory Patton reached on an error, stole sec- ond and then third. An error on Patton’s swipe of third allowed her to score. Again, a miscue played a huge role in the fourth when Dallas added its final run as Swepston walked and eventu- ally scored on a throwing error.
