IF __ sunday, October 24, 2004 Tue POST 1 @ # f | oF Church & Community Pastor Dick Hawley High Point Church | We fellowship | I together Acts 2:42, “And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers.” 4 What is Fellowship? The word in Greek is koinonia. It means | - being as committed to each other as we are to 1 | Jesus Christ. God is the Father of the family ¥ and He looks down on His family the church and says, “I want you guys to be as committed ¥ to each other as you are to me.” Sadly, joining a church doesn’t guarantee fellowship. You can be a member your entire life of a church and never experience deep meaningful signifi- cant relationships. You can totally miss what it means to have heart to heart and soul to soul fellowship. In fact, churches are filled with lonely people. Because fellowship does not come automatically, it must be a learned thing I Corinthians 1:10 “Now I plead with you, . brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.” We must @® to live life together. We must learn to be considerate of one another. sa a, Ct a The four levels of fellowship: 1. Fellowship of socializing together This is hanging out together. It’s having fun together. It’s enjoying one another’s company. It’s eating together. It’s talking about how the kids are doing and the weather and how the Pittsburgh Steelers are doing. ! +2, Fellowship of studying together is in Acts 17:11-12, “These were more fair- minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so. Therefore many f them believed, and also not a few of the Greeks, prominent women as well as men.” 3. Fellowship of serving together This is where we do things together as the family of God ... projects, missionary encour- agement endeavors, simply helping one anoth- er, doing ministry together for your small group and much more. 4. Fellowship of suffering together This is the deepest level of fellowship. The bible calls this the “Fellowship of Suffering.” Philippians 3:10, “that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellow- ship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death...” This is where you gather together to learn God's Word together.
