From left: Eliz- abeth Sullivan, Michael Gionfriddo, Neil VanBodegom Smith. HABITAT (continued from page 1) put in place, it is under roof, and the windows have been in- stalled. The Back Mountain Methodist churches working on the project and raising funds for it are: Alderson, Carverton, Center Moreland, Dallas, Lehman/Idetown, Mt. Zion, Orange, Shavertown and Trucksville. “Approximately $45,000 was needed for the construction,” said Dallas resident Morag Michael, a member of the steer- ing committee, “and the good news is that over half of the money has been raised. The challenge is that we still need to come up with the remaining $18,000.” More than 30 Methodist churches in the valley are ask- ing their members to partici- pate financially in this project by conducting “nail sales” in their respective congregations. “The purchased nails can then be returned for use in the con- struction of the actual house,” said Michael. “We also have Wesley Habitat House T-shirts for sale for $10 each.” Some of the nail sales cam- paigns have taken on a unique approach. Susie Snyder, project chair from the Lehman/Idetown = Methodist Church, tied the Easter theme together with the Habitat proj- ect. “We “connected the nail sale with the crucifixion,” said Snyder. “The youth group found Bible verses using the word naii, and selected about 15 of them to read and discuss on Easter Sunday. Most of the verses confirmed that nails hold things together as these nails will hold this house to- gether for its new family.” “There is a place for anyone and everyone who wants to help build this house,” said re- cently retired pastor Ken Carder. “You don’t have to have experience. You just need a willing heart that wants to help a family elevate themselves from substandard housing. Some recipient families have a safe and affordable home for the first time in their lives.” Human capital is also need- ed. Recipients of Habitat homes must put in 400 hours of their own labor, but more vol- unteer assistance is always wel- come. “1t will take many willing hearts and willing hands to help us see that this project gets finished.” Morag Michael Habitat steering committee wishing to participate in a nail sale, make a lunch for the workers or help on site may call Rev. Carder at 718-0861 or Morag Michael at 675-0488 for the supplies needed to hold sale, more information on the work of Habitat, or to request a speaker for the project. “We all know that it takes more than just these nails to build a home,” said Michael. “It will take many willing hearts and willing hands to help us see that this project gets fin- ished. Our goal is to have the house ready for dedication "© the spring of 2005. A family is waiting.” THE CorNERGRILL| RESTAURANT & CATERING Sha i} Dinner Specials | aH Turkey DIVan..............oooooove. $9 | Turkey Over Toast w/ Broccoli & Cheese —— Seved w/ Vegatable Beef Rollentini........cccccco..e. $958 Beef Rolled w/ Bread Stuffing Topped w/ Gravy Chicken Franchais................. $b Chicken Breast Sauteed In Lem Butter & White Wine Sauce Eat-In/Take Out Lunches Delicious Homemade Dinners To Go 1116 Chase Road Shavertown, PA 570-696-3996 Hours: Mon-Thurs 11AM - 7PM Crab Cakes........
