Back Mountain junior football teams open against each other The Dallas Junior Mounts and Kingston Township Raiders met August 22 for the opening of the mini- football season. Results were supplied by the teams. Back Mountain Cup again up for grabs The race for the 2004-05 Back Mountain Cup will begin Thursday with a golf match between the Dallas and Lake- Lehman high school teams at Huntsville Golf Club. The winning school displays the trophy until the end of the year. Lake-Lehman won the inaugural 2002-03 year of the Cup, riding a strong fall sports showing in which they lost only one match to a 14-9 victory margin. Dallas finished the 2003- 04 race with double wins in baseball and softball to claim the trophy by a 15.5 to 6.5 advantage. The Cup is the reward for an entire year of excellence on the field and in the gym. It includes every regular-season game, match and meet in which the schools’ varsity squads play one another, awarding one point for each victory and .5 point to each school in a tie. There is no distinction made between a win in volleyball, football or track — all are equal- ly important. It is not intended to diminish the importance of the Old Shoe game, or the more recent awards given by Back Moun- tain Youth Soccer to the winning squad. The week prior to the Rochester Tournament, Steve was also selected as the MVP of the Star Goal- keeper Academy Camp in Simsbury, Ct., where he competed against over 60 other goalies from through- out the United States, Canada and Europe. Steve will be a freshman at Dallas High School this fall and is a member of the Dal- las soccer team. He is also a member of the Wyoming Valley Soccer Club, where he trains with Bob Zanicky. Misericordia names coaches Janelle Perlis, a former standout at Lake-Lehman and James Madison University, will serve as assistant field hock- ey coach at College Misericordia this season. * Rachel Farley and Holly (Shiber) Sowcik will assist the women’s soccer team. Farley played at Lehman and Miseri- cordia, while Sowcik, a Dallas graduate, played at Wilkes.
