A recent inventory revealed that the following items are in short supply: juice, canned fruit, peanut butter, jelly, canned meats, cereal, canned beets and carrots, spaghetti sugar, flour, canned cake mixes. Individuals, churches and civic or service organizations e encouraged to call the vol- teers at the food pantry at 696-2917 to arrange a mutually convenient time to deliver any donations they are able to col- lect, or food may be dropped off on Tuesday or Thursday mornings from 10 a.m. until noon. The food pantry is located in the Dickson Educational Facili- ty at the Trucksville United Methodist Church. Interment, Elan Memorial Park, Lime Ridge. LUTHER KOCHER U.S. Air Force veteran Luther D. Kocher, age 73 of Sweet Valley, died Aug. 13, 2004, at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. He was born at Sorber Mountain, Oct. 29, 1930, and was the son of Ethel (Hum- mel) Kocher, Sweet Valley and the late Sterling Kocher. He graduated from Laketon High School, class of 1948 and served in the United ~ States Air Force from 1948 to 1952. He was employed by the To- byhanna Army Depot and Sperry & Rand, Oregon, retir- ing 18 years ago. He was a member of the Ruggles United Methodist Church and the Brotherhood of America. He was preceded in death by wives; the former Betty Phares, Dolores DePasquale and Carol Dukes; "and a daughter Karen Kocher. Patriotic GRACE MATALAVY Former owner of Hi Way Inn in Tunkhannock Grace E. Matalavy of Lake Winola, died on Aug. 16, 2004 at Mercy Hospital in Scranton. She was born in East Lemen, Wyoming County, on April 23, 1932, daughter of the late Lewis and Eleanor Arnold Ellsworth. She was a 1950 graduate of Tunkhannock High School, and a member of St. Mary’s of the Lake. She and her husband of 52 years, Adam Matalavy, were the former owners of the Hi Way Inn in Tunkhannock. She was preceded in death by a brother, Lewis Ellsworth Jr. Surviving is a son and daugh- ter-in-law, Lewis and Cindy Matalavy, of Mehoopany; son, Adam Matalavy, of Ft. RICHARD BARANOWSKI U.S. Army Veteran Richard Baranowski, 58, of Race Road, Dallas, died August 18, 2004 at Hospice Communi- ty Care, Mercy Howie, Wilkes-Barre. Born in Germany, he was the son of the late Nicholas and So- phie Baranowski. A US. Army veteran, he served during the Korean War’ era. Mr. Baranowski formerly owned and operated BES Envi- ronmental Specialist Inc, Larksville. He was a member of St. Vladimir's Ukrainian Catholic Church, Edwardsville. Surviving are a daughter, Lisa M. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry (Mac) McCartney. She has. resided in Dallas since 1957, living on Elmcrest Drive and at the Newberry Estate. She was born on May 23, 1923, In Lawrence, Mass., and was a daughter of Donat Boucher, of Lawrence, Mass. Mrs. Mc- Cartney was a 1940 graduate of Lawrence High School and received a Bachelor of Sci- ence degree from Syracuse University, majoring In fash- ion merchandising. She also attended Simmons College and the Barbizon School of Modeling in New York City. She worked in New York and Syracuse as a fashion model making a number of televi- sion appearances. She also served In the U.S. Navy as a W.AV.E. with a rank of Petty Officer during World War II. She was a member of the Shavertown Methodist Church and was active in the church choir. She was former- ly an active member of the Dallas Women’s Club and a former President of the Dal- las Women of Rotary, and was a Cub Scout and Girl Scout loader. She was an avid golfer and belonged to the Newber- ry Estate Women’s Golf League. She also served as a volunteer in many charitable functions. She is survived by her sons, Dennis and his wife, Susan, of Harveys Lake; Brian and his wife, Mary, of Wilkes-Barre; and daughter, Lisa Murphy and her husband, Michael, of Reston, Va. Gra- ham Sr., she resided in Shaver- town for 63 years. She was a member of the Shavertown United Methodist Church. She also was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, was a member and former board member of the YWCA, had served as co-cap- tain of the Back Mountain United Way, served as a volun- teer at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, was an honorary member of The Westmoreland Club, a former member of the Wyoming Valley Women’s Club and was active in many com- munity endeavors. Mrs. Gra- ham had also been an active golfer for many years. She was preceded in death by husband, Thomas J. Sr.; by son, Thomas J. “Tucker” Jr; and by a sister, Maude Rozelle.
