The first three innings looked like
the game was going to be a pitchers’
duel between Steve Poorman and
Back Mountain National's Hunter En-
glehart. Neither allowed a hit, but
both teams managed to get a run for a
1-1 tie. For Back Mountain, Erik Can-
non walked, advanced two bases on
passed balls and scored on a ground
out in the first inning.
District 29 champ Stroudsburg Na-
tional took a 4-1 lead in the fourth,
then. exploded for seven runs in the
fifth.
D-16 MINOR BASEBALL
BMT National 8, Northwest 5
July 19 — Drew Brandt struck out
11 batters as he led Back Mountain to
a victory. Tom Donovan and Cody
Poepperling each had a double, and
Austin Smith added a hit to lead Back
Mountain on offense.
D-16 JUNIOR BASEBALL
BMT American 6, Plains 5
July 17 — Winning pitcher Matt
Ruch struck out six and allowed just
two earned runs as Back Mountain
American won the District 16 Junior
Baseball Tournament.
Doug Harding picked up the save
and had two hits. Mike Prater had
three hits, Josh Backes and Ryan
Phillips added two each.
Chris Iorio pitched all seven innings
for Plains and had three hits, includ-
ing a double. Rob Charnicho went 3-
for-3 with two RBI, and Mike Smith
had two hits for Plains.
D-16 SENIOR BASEBALL
Back Mountain wins

July 19 — Greg Harris and Matt
Shumbris were each 2-for-4 with two
RBI and two runs scored as Back
Mountain defeated Wyoming/West
Wyoming 13-6 to win the District 16
Senior League Baseball championship.
Back Mountain opened the Section
4 playoffs at 1 p.m. Saturday against
host District 29. Results of that game
were not available in time for this is-
sue.
Shumbris was also the winning
pitcher, recording three strikeouts,
and received relief help from Jake
Stryjewski, who fanned five. Dylan
Seeley added two hits and an RBI for
iBack Mountain,; Dan Jacebs added

Wyoming/West Wyoming 2
July 15 — Dylan Feeley pitched six
innings and allowed four hits as Back
Mountain defeated Wyoming/West
Wyoming 10-2 in the District 16 Se-
nior Baseball winners bracket final.
Matt Kapitula and Nick Samanas
each had two hits and tripled for Back
Mountain.

July 21 — Marc Noyalis went 4-for-4
with three doubles and six RBI as Na-
tional advanced. Chad Carey was 2-for-

July 17 — Brian Stepniak pitched a
complete game two-hitter with five
strikeouts as National advanced to the
third round of the District 16 Minor
League tournament. Jason Schilling
had two hits including a double, and
Drew Brandt also had two hits, includ-
ing a triple. Michael Banas and Jordan
Thomas added hits.

July 17 — Shane Dunn went 3-for-3
for Back Mountain American. Jordan
Stephens took the loss but struck out
nine in five innings.
