He was an altar boy at St. Joseph’s Lutheran Church, Hanover section of Nanticoke. He was a graduate of John S. Fine High School, Nanticoke, 1979, and attended Penn State main campus. Robert served in the United States Air Force as a master airman at Hahn Air Force Base in Germany. He graduated from Wilkes-Barre Vo-Tech Practical Nursing School and was a nurse for 16 years at Val- ley Crest, Wilkes-Barre. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church, Pittston. He was an avid fisherman and loved the outdoors. He was happiest when he was hiking in the woods with his sons, or sitting around a camp fire talk- ing. He was a devoted father and husband. He is survived by his loving wife of 19 years, Elena Moran Simkonis; children, Robert, Christopher, Andrew and Matthew, at home; stepchil- dren, Damien Thompson, Hughestown; and Melissa Thompson, Arizona; brothers, Victor and Aletha Simkonis, Mifflinville, Pa.; Gerald, Clari- on, Pa.; one sister, Susan Mali- nowski, Inkerman, Pa.; numer- ous nieces and nephews.
