wat AN AW NAN RE 8 The Post SPORTS Sunday, April 4, 2004 Dallas, Lehman look for new basketball coaches Staff reports The head coach of the Dallas High School boys basketball team has decided not to reap- ply for the position. At Lake- Lehman, the school board is seeking applicants for the head coach position after an 0-23 season. Dallas head coach John Collins said he made the deci- sion to resign about a week ago and told athletic director Jack Wolensky March 30. “I've decided not to reapply. I'm just burned out from coach- ing,” said Collins, a 37-year-old Thornhurst resident. “Running an entire program is very, very time consuming. It took a lot of time from my family and work.” Collins took ' over the pro- gram after the 2002-03 season, replacing six-year head coach Pat McCue. The Mountaineers were 7-19 in their only - year under Collins. Dallas got off to a slow start before posting Wyoming Valley Conference Division II second-half wins against Nanti- coke and Crestwood, along with a victory against Wyoming Area in the District 2 Class 3A playoffs. The season ended with a loss at No. 2 seed Valley View in the second round of the playoffs. Lake-Lehman School Board president James Mahon said the coaching position was opened during the March 23 board meeting. This past season, the Black Knights finished 0-23 under first-year coach Eric Miner. Mahon said Miner was told he can reapply for the position. “The job is not being opened just because he didn’t win,” Mahon said. “We're looking for someone to take the program to where it’s supposed to be. We're looking for someone to install discipline. It’s not about wins and losses. The team was undisciplined. Mahon said the position will be posted today and that he would like to fill the position as soon as possible. The next School Board work session is April 13, and the regular meet- ing April 20.
