Dallas, though, managed to keep just one blemish on its league record, defeating the Argents 45-37. “You have bad nights, you have good nights,” Dallas coach Joe Noon said. “It wasn’t one of our best, but we still won.” The Mountaineers finally distanced themselves from Hoban in the fourth quarter when forward Rosalyn Wen- tko scored the period’s first five points for a 34-20 lead. The Argents cut the deficit to seven twice, but with its of- fense struggling, Dallas’ lead did not appear to be in jeopardy. “A win is a win,” said Wentko, ac- knowledging that better performanc- es will be needed later in the season. After all, Dallas held Hoban to nine first-half points, yet led only 159 at halftime. : Although Hoban came into the con- test tied for first place, its offense had- n’t been able to produce recently. Laura Valentine opened the game with a fastbreak layup, but the Ar- gents then went more than 12 min- utes without scoring another field goal. Oddly, it was a difficult shot — a dribble under the basket and semi- hook shot by Mallory Zoeller — that broke the drought.
