Schutz was pleasantly sur- prised in his final bout when opponent Dan Vogel of West- ern Wayne chose bottom to start the second period with the score 0-0. “Most people look for my arm bar,” said Schutz. “So when he took bottom, I just hit it and it worked.” Schutz earned the fall in 2:26. “To me it was pretty impor- tant,” said Schutz. “It was a tough tournament with stiff competition. It's definitely a confidence booster.” Dragon’s victory in the final was ugly, but not because the Lehman junior didn’t wrestle well. Dragon injured his right thumb and has been taking Aleve, a painkiller that thins his blood. The result was fre- quent nose bleeds that stopped the final bout five times and } consumed about four of five al- lotted blood timeout minutes. “Once it starts it just doesn’t stop,” Dragon said of the blood. “I didn’t want to lose that match on something stu- pid.” Dragon scored a double-leg takedown in the first, then got three back points before giving up a reversal. He escaped and led 6-2. Dragon escaped to start the third and got a take- down and two more back points for an 11-2 major deci- sion. “It was real hard to get any momentum going when he kept getting a break to catch his breath,” Dragon said. Dallas wrestler John Hettes took third place at 119 and Lake-Lehman’s Andy Josuweit was third at 140. Spring-Ford won the team ti- tle.
