Tioga St., Tunkhannock, is not your tradi- tional production of Dickens’ timeless story. The words and story are pure Dickens. It’s the way the story is told that’s a bit different. This show, produced by Box Of Light Theatre and presented by the Wyoming County Cultural Center, uses a few live actors, a few digital ones and scenery created on computer and pro- jected onto the stage. “This is definitely not your father’s Christmas Carol,” says Rand Whipple, who conceived of the production and handled the computer programming necessary for the show. “The words are completely Dickens’ own words and the images the audience sees are from Dick- ens’ London. What is different is how we used the computer to animate the world and char- acters of Dickens’ story.” The production is not a mod- ernization of what for many is a Christmas tradition. “We're very respectful of the story. Whipple says the show re- quires a lot of the actors as well. “We each perform 10 or 20 characters, some only for a line or two. We perform whole parts of some scenes to choreo- graphed sound effects and without any words at all. At an- other time, we may be in the audience, conducting them in ghostly howls for Marley.” “The computer animation is new and the story is old. I think that our audience will e joy a production that reaches $ into the past and presents it a modern edge.” The performance is spon- sored by Kiwanis Club of Tunkhannock and Pennsylvania Partners in the Arts.
