Member of Shavertown UM. Church Joseph S. Allen Jr, 77, of Dallas, died Tuesday Septem- ber 9, 2003 at Meadows Nurs- ing Center, Dallas. Born Aug. 3, 1926, in Arling- ton Heights, Mass., he was a son of the late Joseph and Ruth Allen. He graduated from Wyoming Seminary, Kingston. He served in the U.S. Air force during World War II in Pana- ma, as a ham radio operator. He worked for Wyoming Na- tional Bank, First Federal Sav- ings and Loan, United Penn Bank and PG&W. He was a member of the Shavertown United Methodist Church, Shavertown, where he was treasurer. He was past master of the George M. Dallas Mason- ic Lodge 531 and a 33rd degree Mason of the Caldwell Consis- tory, Bloomsburg; and was a member of the Irem Temple Shriners. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Florence Harper, Ruth McBirney; brother, Harold Knauer; and two infant grandchildren. Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Lorraine E.; daughters, Deborah A. Morgantini, with whom he and his wife resided in Dallas; Roxanne Askew, Kingston; sons, Jeffrey S., Ed- wardsville; Joseph S. He worked for the German Vault before purchas- ing LaBarre’s Printing, West Pittston, which he owned and operated. He served in the Ko- rean War, guarding the 38 Par- allel and was later stationed in Germany. He was a member of the Carverton United Methodist Church, where he was treasurer. He was also a member of the Wyoming Ma- sonic Lodge 468, where he served as secretary. He was past president of the Franklin Township Ambulance and the Greater Pittston Protestant Layman’s Association. He was also a member of the Dallas Odd Fellows and a lifetime member of the Milton Hershey Alumni Association. He was preceded in death by his son, Kevin; brother, Gene; and step-sister, Ama. Surviving are his wife of 49 years, the former Dorothy Ann Edwards; brothers, John, Georgetown, Texas; David Sut- ton, Harding; step-sisters, Kate Geary, Falls; Maybert Stitzer, West Wyoming; and nieces and nephews.
