Bell tower dedicated in memory of Geraldine Ruth Daley Anderson College Misericordia officials have dedicated a new bell tow- er currently under construction to the memory of Geraldine Ruth Daley Anderson, a noted educator and education sup- porter in the Wyoming Valley. Dr. Robert S. Anderson was in attendance at the ceremony to honor his late wife. The Andersons are major contributors to the college, which has named the Anderson Sports and Health Center as ‘well as the Anderson Athletic Fields after the couple. The col- lege annually awards the Geral- dine Ruth Daley Anderson Scholarship to female Coughlin High School students who meet the college’s academic re- quirements and who have demonstrated academic excel- lence and leadership skills in school. Dr. Pasquale DiPasquale, Jr., longtime friend of the Ander- son family, served as guest speaker for the event. The bell tower was designed by Quad Three Group, Inc. The contractor was Sordoni Construction Services, Inc.. Constructed with brick and pre-cast concrete molding to complement Mercy Hall, it ris- es 75 feet above the ground. Its base is a perfectly square 22 feet by 22 feet. The new caril- lon system produces the sounds of up to eight different bells. The entrance at its base cre- ates a new entrance to Mercy Hall, leading to and showecas- ing its historic lobby. Mrs. Anderson, a 1930 Coughlin High School gradu- ate, developed and coached the girls’ athletics teams and promoted girls sports in other local school districts through- out the area. She also created Coughlin’s majorette drill team, the first of its kind in the region. She officiated at many girls’ sporting events and di- rected waterfront programs at New York and Pennsylvania Girl Scout camps. Send The Dallas Post to a friend. It makes a great gift.
