12 The Dallas Post SPORTS Friday, August 29, 2003 Dallas Rotary Charity Golf Classic Sept. 22 The 21st annual charity golf classic sponsored by the Dallas Rotary to support Dallas Ro- tary Charities will be held at the Irem Temple Country Club on Monday, Sept. 22 beginning with a shotgun start at 12:30. “We are looking for hole sponsors and players,” said Kevin Smith, returning chair- men for the event. “Last year we had more than 90 sponsors, and we would like to make it 100 this year to add to the suc- cess of our event.” The spon- sorship fee is $100. Each adver- tiser will receive a sign promi- nently displayed near a green or a tee. The Rotary is also looking for players. The format is a cap- tain and three crew members. Individuals are invited and will be teamed up with others in a group. The entry fee is $100. All proceeds will help the Ro- tary Club of Dallas Charities sponsor and contribute to the Back Mountain Library, the an- nual Christmas Shopping Spree for underprivileged children, the Dallas/Lehman Book Scholarships and Essay Con- tests, the annual boys and girls leadership camps, Luzerne County Fall Fair, Dallas Youth Basketball, Rotary youth ex- change program, Back Moun- tain Food Pantry and more. Golf tourney to aid Dallas wrestling The First Annual Dallas Wrestling Golf Tournament to benefit the Dallas wrestling programs will be held Saturday, September 27 at 1 p.m. at Sand Springs Golf Club. Format will be captain and crew. DelBalso Ford will give away a brand new 2003 Ford Focus for the first hole-in-one on the par 3, 17th hole. There will be a dinner following golf at the Sand Springs Country Club. Fee is $75 per player or $300 per foursome. The field will be limited to the first 144 paid entrants. Small-group basketball lessons “Power Post Play” is offering small-group basketball lessons for forwards and centers. The instruction is available for girls in grades 9-12 and will run the weekend of September 20-21 in Kingston. Teaching points will include shooting, post moves, post defense, rebounding tips, agility and conditioning, passing, and mental toughness. The lessons run from 9 to 3 on Saturday and from 1 to 4 on Sunday. Enrollment is limited to 20 players and the cost is $100. The director is Bernie Kozlowski who played at Lehigh University and semi-pro ball in Europe, and who is a mem- ber of the NE Chapter of the PA Sports Hall of Fame. Back Mountain Blitz places second Members from the Back Mountain Blitz travel soccer team recently captured second place in the U-8 division at the Lackawanna County 3-v-3 Soccer Clash held at the Lack- awanna County multipurpose stadium.
