Kowalek, 85, of Main Street, Wanamie section of Newport Township, formerly of West Main Street, Nanticoke, died Monday June 16, 2003 at her daughter’s home in Wood- lyn. Born Aug. 28, 1917, in Wanamie, she was a daughter of the late Erben W. and Eliza- beth (Jones) Vandermark. She was a 1936 graduate of New- port Township High School and a member of its state champion basketball team. She worked as a housekeeper for the William Davis Funeral Home, Nanti- coke, for many years. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Nanticoke. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eric O.; brothers, Russell, Carl, Albert and Howard; sisters, Mary Finnegan, Mildred Dudeck and Emmeline Truscott. Surviving are a daughter, Lin- da Vosheski, Woodlyn; sons, Eric, Wantagh, Long Island, N.Y. He was in- ducted into Who's Who in American Students and achieved an award of recogni- tion in biology and science. He was also a graduate of Temple University, where he received a degree in pharmacy.
