6 Dallas Post Dallas, PA Friday, May 30, 2003 It rained, but Memorial Day para (continued from page 1) The crowd lined the intersection of Machell Avenue and Memorial Highway to watch Back Mountain emergency vehicles, youth organi- zations, the Ladies Auxil- iary, PA Sena- tor Lemmond, U.S. Con- gressman Don Sher- wood and other digni- taries make their way to the war memorial at the center of town. Once there, speakers in- cluding Reese, Kup- stas, Marion Kunigonis, Father John Lambert, Sen- ator Lem- mond and Congressman Sherwood talked of re- membering those who had served. A group of Cub Scouts laid a wreath on the memorial. Dallas High School trum- peters posi- tioned throughout the crowd played Taps. The emotion of the crowd moved from solemn to raucous as Con- gressman Sherwood praised the US military. “We have today the most technologically competent, proficient mil- itary the world has ever seen,” he said. He exhorted the crowd to instill patriotism in future generations; “We had a reminder with September 11. On September 11, we saw what can happen when we get complacent. It's our job as patri- otic Americans that all the young generations understand the sacri- fices of those that have gone before.” “Today is a day of remembrance. To remember those that have gone before.” POST PHOTOS/CHARLOTTE BARTIZEK -800-4-SUNOCO ® Sunoco Sunny is licensed by (@folo] 01 SERS TRISH [go (©F{0[0 2S 1V a lolelo Ml [aTeA | 21:41) Le) ETN [eledoll do], LY A TW eT .Rainy skies didn’t stop the annual Memorial Day parade in Dallas, although it was cut short as organizers decided not to contin- ue on to Woodlawn Cemetery after the service at the veterans memorial.
