The students collected non-perishable food, paperback books, can- dy, playing cards, phone cards, disposable cameras, personal-care products and other useful items. Students also are encouraging the Sem community to write letters to the troops, and have created yellow ribbons for community mem- bers to wear in support of the troops. All items were given to the Kingston American Legion Post 395 and the Swoyersville American Legion Post 644 for distribution in Iraq. JCC Day Camp 2003 The Jewish Community Center of Wyoming Valley Day Camp Committee and staff recently an- nounced that the camp will open for boys and girls, ages 2-15 on Monday, June 16. The program will run through Friday, August 8. Open House for campers and parents to meet with staff will be held on Thursday, June 12 from 6-7:30 p.m. at the campsite in Dallas. For information call 824-4646. { y \ Sal dd Last turn of the baton The Dallas Middle School Jazz Band performed one last time under the direction of long-time band teacher Mike Pawlik at Barnes and Noble Book Store on April 3. Mr. Pawlik has accepted the position of assistant principal at the Greater Nanticoke Area Middle School. The Jazz Band was raising funds to help defray the cost of a future trip to perform at Disneyworld in Orlando, Florida. Back Mountain O’Reilly students attend state FBLA competition Four member of Bishop O’Reilly’s Future Business Leaders of America chapter and their adviser, Mrs. Sharon Obuhosky, attended the 2003 Pennsylvania FBLA State Leadership Conference April 7-9 at the Seven Springs Resort, Champion. Students qualified for state competition by placing in competitive events on the regional level. During the conference, Mary Yanik, daughter of Atty. and Mrs. Glenn Yanik of Dallas, competed with representatives from other Pennsylvania FBLA chapters for top honors in the Business Com- munications event. Nora Stepanitis, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Joseph Stepanitis of Shavertown, competed in International Busi- ness.
