Celebrity Luncheons presents Frank Abagnale On Friday, April 25, Celebrity Luncheons will feature Frank Abagnale, the impetus behind the best-selling book and motion picture, Catch Me If You Can. A con artist straight, ‘Frank Abag- nale was a 'multi-million- was 21 years old. He stole it all .. and then -blew it all Frank Abagnale within five frantic years while he was one of the world’s most wanted men. Abagnale didn't use a gun or force in his now legendary life of crime. His weapon was his wit. With an IQ of 136 and only a tenth grade education, he suc- cessfully impersonated a pedia- trician, a practicing attorney (fabricating a Harvard law de- * gree, but genuinely passing the Louisiana Bar Exam), a sociolo- gy professor at Brigham Young OUniversity, a stock broker and “even an FBI agent. His notorious escapades as a pilot for a major international airline earned him the dubious title “The Skyway- man” among authorities that © chased him across 26 countries gs TRE and all 50 states. Crime paid, but just for a while. “I didn’t keep any books,” says Abagnale, “but the FBI said I cashed $2.5 million worth of fraudulent checks. But money was just a part of it. I had fun fooling people. It was exciting, and at times, glamorous. It was all just acting. I was always aware that if and when I were caught, I wasn’t going to win any Oscars. 1 was going to prison.” He did go to prison, in France, Sweden and the U.S. Frank was released in 1974 on a parole that lasted through 1981. The chase was over, but an exciting new career was just beginning for Abagnale. He is now one of the most respected authorities in the country on the subject of white-collar crime prevention. By his own decision, he has re- paid all of the $2.5 million back with profits from his business. Today, Abagnale is one of the world’s most respected authori- ties on the subjects of forgery, embezzlement and secure docu- ments. He lectures at the FBI Academy and more than 14,000 financial institutions, corpora- tions and law enforcement agen- cies have attended his fraud prevention workshops. In 1998, CNN Financial News selected Abagnale as a distinguished member of “Pinnacle 400”. Abagnale takes you from laughter to tears and shows that family is the most important thing. His story is depicted in the best-selling book and Steven Speilberg’s motion picture, Catch Me If You Can. Abagnale has also authored, The Art of the Steal. The final event of the 2002- 2003 Celebrity Luncheons series will be The Antiques Roadshow on Thursday, May 15.
