l 8 Dallas Post Dallas, PA Thursday, March 6, 2003 Huntsville (continued from page 1) Glushefski said the road plan will utilize new technologies not available 10 years ago when the road was last paved. “Super Pave” will allow higher structural integrity from less pavement thickness and “super elevating” around curves will make it easi- er for drivers to stay on the road. Glushefski said 75 percent of the fund- ing for the project will come from the fed- eral government and the remaining 25 percent from the county Office of Commu- nity and Economic Development. Glushefski said Huntsville Road quali- fies for federal aid because of the high lev- els of traffic on the road. Other roads with similar levels of traffic that also qualify and haven't yet been resurfaced are Hill- side and Chase roads. Work is not expected to begin until summer of 2004. “Because the project is being funded by federal aid, it has to go through an exten- sive planning process,” said Glushefski. As part of that process, the four in- volved municipalities were invited to a meeting February 27 that outlined the plans. At the meeting, representatives from the Road and Bridge Department lis- tened to public comments, questions and concerns. Glushefski said part of the rea- son for the meeting was to gather informa- tion from residents about their concerns. “Comments made last night will try to be addressed within the final design of the project,” said Glushefski, who estimated about 40 people attended. Glushefski said the road will remain open during the construction and there should be reasonable access to homes. “Short-term delays can be expected that can be compared to a typical paving job,” he said. Glushefski said utility poles will have to be relocated, but no property will have to be acquired and existing stone walls will stay intact.
