Girl Scouts open ‘cookie shops’ The Girl Scouts of Penn's Woods Council will open troop “Cookie Shops” now through March 15 in communities throughout the Council area. “The troop Cookie Shops are very important to the overall success of the Girl Scout Cookie Sale,” said Barbara Naranche, Executive Director for the Girl Scouts of Penn’s Woods Council. “It really offers girls the chance to further develop their self-con- fidence, sense of community and business skills.” All of the net proceeds earned by Cookie Shops and the gener- al Girl Scout Cookie sale remain within the Council area to sup- port local Girl Scout activities like camping, outdoor educa- tion, science workshops, travel, community service, sports clin- ics and more. All eight types of Girl Scout Cookies are available at Cookie Shops: Thin Mints, Shortbreads, Friendship Circles, Caramel deLites, Peanut Butter Patties, Lemon Pastry Cremes (reduced fat), Peanut Butter Sandwich, and Animal Treasures. Mary Chappell receives achievement award Dallas resident, Mary Chappell, recently received the God and Service Recognition Award from the Boy Scouts of America and the Presbyterian Church in appreciation for exceptional generosity of her time and talent in serving the youth of the Back Mountain. Rev. Mark Harper of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Dallas, made a formal presentation to Chappell during the weekly worship service on Sunday, February 23. The medallion, lapel pin and certificate represent her long and distinguished service to young people in the scouting program. Chappell’s chil- dren were active in scouting and her son, Mark, went on to become an Eagle Scout. Chappell’s other activities include serving as a past Deacon at Trinity Presbyterian Church, past Super- intendent of the Sunday School, past president and treasurer of the Women’s Association, founder of the Trinity Caring and Sharing tree program to feed needy families, a past den leader, and chairman of the Nearly Old committee and Antiques committee for the Back Mountain Library Auction. Nominations will be accepted until March 28, 2003. Bishop Susan M. Morrison has appointed Rev. Michael Bealla as pastor of the Trucksville United Methodist Church. A native of Wyoming Valley Rev. Bealla graduated from Coughlin High School in 1971. He attended Penn State University/Wilkes- Barre and earned his Bachelors degree from College Misericordia. In 1982, he graduated from Drew Theological School with a Masters of Divinity. He was or- dained in the Wyoming Confer- ence the same year. Rev. Bealla to be installed | at Trucksville UMC Rev.
