Born Aug. © 25,.:1910," "In Lehman, he was the son of the late Arthur and Marion Young Major. Alan loved the farm and a good team of horses. He was educated in Lehman schools, Wyoming Seminary School of Business and Lehigh Universi- ty. He served the public for 48 years as a Justice of the Peace and Lehman Township Supervi- sor. He was a member of the Lehman United Methodist Church, the Pennsylvania Farmer's Association, the Re- publican State Committee, Os- age No. 712 IOOF, Lehman, the George M. Dallas Lodge, No. 531, F & AM and the Caldwell Consistory, Bloomsburg. - He was a delegate to the Republi- can National Convention during the Richard M. Nixon adminis- tration. He served 15 years with the Luzerne County Planning Commission, 11 of which he served as chairman. He was preceded in death by his first wife, the former Dorothy Williams. Surviving are his wife of 23 years, the former Helen Fermi- er; son, Arthur, Lehman; step- daughter, Amy Fermier; broth- ers, T. FRANCIS STOLARICK Founder and owner of Stolarick’s Turf and Trail Francis E. “Panky” Stolarick, 74, of Mountainview Drive, Lehman Township, died Satur- day February 1, 2003 at home. Born in Lehman, he was the son of the late Frank and Mary (Pastula) Stolarick. He graduat- ed from Lehman High ‘School. He was founder and owner of Stolarick’s Turf and Trail. He also worked as a bus contrac- tor with the Lake-Lehman School District. He had his own band and was a square dance caller. He was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Lake Silkworth. Surviving are his wife of 47 years, the former Susan Zurin- ski; daughter, Diane Stefanow- icz, Lehman; son, Lehman; and four grandchil- dren. Valick, 77, of Pikes Creek, died Monday February 3, 2003 at Hospice Care of the VNA, Heritage House, Wilkes- Barre. Born May 29, 1925, in Pikes Creek, she was the daughter of the late Willard and Emma (Naugle) Cornell. She graduated from Lehman High School and Penn State University. She taught in Mildred, Lake- Lehman, Lehighton and North- west Area school districts. She also worked at Rickets Glen concession stand and was the Lake Township secretary and treasurer. She was a member of Maple Grove United Methodist Church, Pikes Creek; the Will- ing Hands Quilters, the Penn- sylvania Quilters; the Harveys Lake Women’s Service Club; and the Noxen Chapter of TOPS. She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel J. Valick; daughter, Jule Marie Valick; brothers, Harold, Ralph and Kenneth Cornell. Born in Bartonsville, she was the daughter of the late Carl V. and Hazel (Walter) Makinson. She was a 1939 graduate of Forty Fort High School and a graduate of Wyoming Seminary Dean School of Business. She was employed at the offices of Carl V. Makinson Plumbing and Heating, the West Side. News, C.W. Schultz and Postupack Painting. She was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and its Young at Heart Club, Kingston, the Wyoming Valley Boy and Girl Scouts, DeMolay and the Rainbow Girls and sup- ported her husband in the Northeastern China, Burma, In- dia Chapter of the World War II veterans. EUGENE MENGES U.S. Army Air Corps veteran Eugene A. “Gene” Menges, 79, of Dallas, Pa., died on Wednes- day, Jan. 29, 2003. Born and raised in the Cincin- nati, Ohio, area, Gene was the son of the late Edward and Mar- garet (Klein) Menges. He gradu- ated from Elder High School in Cincinnati and attended the University of Cincinnati prior to joining the service in 1943. Gene served in the United States Army Air Corps as a B-24 navi- gator in World War II, flying for the Fifteenth Air Force, 64th Bomb Group. Gene was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross at age 19. He returned to serve his country in the Korean Con- flict and retired as an Air Force captain. Following: a 45 year career with NCR Corporation, Gene re- tired in 1990. He was a member of Gate of Heaven Church, Dal- las. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Donna Keesey.
