12 Dallas Post Dallas, PA Thursday, February 6, 2003 Gilligan to attend Naval Academy John Gilligan, son of Martin and Mary Barbara Gilligan, Dallas, has received an offer of appoint- ment to the United States Naval Academy for the Class of 2007. He was chosen from over 14,000 ap- plicants to be one of the 1400 midshipmen to be sworn in on July 1, 2003. The appointment to the Academy comes with a full scholarship to one of the six top engineering schools in the country. John, a senior at Dallas High School, received his required nomination to the Naval Academy from Congress- man Paul A. Kanjorski. : Casey Hampsey wins GOH spelling bee John Gilligan Seventy-eight students from grades six through eight participated E in the Gate of Heaven School spelling Bee on Jan. 27. The bee was sponsored by the Times-Leader newspaper. After an hour of competition, five students remained eligible: Noah Zurad, Casey Hampsey, Caroline Zielinski, Susan Krogulski, and Colleen Frederick. Casey Hampsey was named as the 2003 GOH Spelling Bee Champ. Hampsey now advances to the regional spelling bee where she will compete against students from both Wyoming and Luzerne counties.
