Two Lake-Lehman ‘players verbally commit to colleges From staff reports LEHMAN TWP. — Carla Chi- ampi, a Lake-Lehman midfield- er, has given a verbal commit- ment to accept an athletic scholarship from Ball State University. Meredith Edwards, a forward, has done the same with the University of Louisville. A verbal commitment is not binding, and the two can change their minds until they sign a national letter of intent in early February. It does end ji the recruiting process for each nt-athlete, as coaches and © scouts from other schools now can't try to sway their decision. The two had been looking at some of the same schools. Chi- ampi had also considered the University of Maine, the Univer- sity of New Hampshire and Mia- mi of Ohio. Edwards had nar- rowed her choices to Louisville and Maine. “It is one less thing to worry about, but now that I know where I am going, I want to keep improving my game so I can go in there strong,” Ed- wards said. “I've actually stepped up my play.” Chiampi has come through in the clutch numerous times as well, although her contribu- tions aren't always obvious. She has one goal and six as- sists this season.
