10 Dallas Post Dallas, PA Thursday, October 10, 2002 Soccer (continued from page 9) will face each other for the sec- ond time this year. Both coaches were pleased with the outcome of the first meeting and look for- ward to this week's game. Of their first matchup with Dallas, Lehman coach DePasquale says his team was outplayed in the first half. At halftime, the Dallas squad was up 1-0 and the Lehman boys were a bit deflated. Dallas coach Scharff called it “a pretty even game,” but says Lehman was able to “finish more than us.” Dallas missed a penal- ty kick opportunity in the second half and that broke the team’s spirits. Lehman won the game 3- 1, but both coaches agree it was closer than the score might im- ply. “[It’'s] gonna’ be close on Fri- day,” says Scharff. “Records don’t indicate the closeness of these teams, but we are closer than it looks.” DePasquale, whose team is right around .500, agrees, “Dal- las only won one game this year, but they're a lot better than one game.” Before this year's first match, Dallas hadn't lost to Lehman in two or three years, so DePasquale calls the end result a great confidence boost. “[The] biggest thing is that we won,” says DePasquale of the first meeting. “The guys were hungry to win in such a huge ri- valry.” Scharff says he knew at the start his team wouldn't be as for- midable as in previous years, having lost nine starters to grad- uation. One of his new starters was out with injuries during the first five games, and two others missed four. He does say, howev- er, that his team is “building high expectations for next sea- son.” He expects that Lehman and North Pocono will be tough to face in this year’s districts. “We're still pretty confident,” he says. “We had a tough schedule — playing all the top teams twice.” DePasquale says his Lehman team had a few bad breaks early on as well, with all of his players not available for the first three games. He is happy with some of the improvements he’s been see- ing, though, and looks forward to playing long-time rival Dallas in districts. “I don’t think either team will be favored to win,” says De- Pasquale, “but we absolutely have the capability.” Roundup (continued from page 9) in goal. Semi- nary sophomore Laura Suchoski started it when her shot was de- flected to Foltz, a senior right wing. Hudak squared up to face Foltz, making the decision for Foltz an easy one. “Their goalie was right in front of me,” Foltz said. “I didn’t have angle, so I passed it. “I knew somebody would be there.
