12 Dallas Post Dallas, PA Thursday, September 12, 2002 Gate of Heaven School opens Gate of Heaven school opened its doors for the 2002-2003 school year on August 26. The first stu- dent to arrive was seventh grader John Frederick who remarked, “I’m glad to be back at school to see my friends.” The first bus student who arrived at GOH (Bus #7) was Denise Shovlin. First grader Shovlin said she likes when she first gets in school; she was also happy with her homeroom teacher and aide. The Opening Day School Mass was celebrated with Reverend John Lambert, pastor of Gate of Heaven Church, on September 6 with assistance from Mrs. Colleen Engler’s Homeroom Class #106. A Special Commemoration Liturgy, with Msgr. J. Peter Crynes (Pastor of St. Therese’s Church) presiding, is planned for September 11. First graders are active- ly planning and will be celebrating Johnny Apple- seed’s Birthday (September 26) and Dog Week (Sep- tember 22-28). SPCA to host teen forum The SPCA of Luzerne County is initiating a new program. The Teen Forum will be an eight-session discussion group for senior high school students entailing in- depth discussion about animal issues. Each session will be 60 minutes long and: be the second Thursday of every month. Qualifying students will be in tenth, eleventh or twelfth grade in the 2002-2003 school year.
