Presidential historian and bi- ographer, Doris Kearns Goodwin will kick off the Celebrity Lun- cheons 2002-2003 series on Thursday, September 26. Kearns Goodwin is a commentator for NBC and a regular panelist on public television's The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer. Growing up in the 1950s in the Long Island suburb of Rockville Center, Kearns Good- win defined herself by her fami- ly, her street, her town, her Ro- man Catholic religion and her team — the Brooklyn Dodgers. As did the Dodgers, Kearns Goodwin eventually left her hometown. In Waterville, Maine, she earned her B.A. from Colby College, graduating magna cum laude, and continued on to earn a Ph.D. in government at Har- vard University. Before returning to Harvard as a professor of gov- ernment for 10 years, teaching a Trucksville United Methodist Church schedule The Trucksville United Methodist Church will resume the regular fall schedule of services on Sunday, Sept. 8. The weekly services at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. are held in the sanctu- ary of the church, located on Church Road. On September 8 the congregation will be “Remembering 9/11” The firemen, policemen, and all the emergency responders from the Back Mountain will be recognized in these services. On September 15 there will be one service at 11 a. m. when Bish- op Susan M. Morrison will lead the congregation in worship. The following week the regular schedule of 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. services will resume. All services will have special music by the Chancel Choir, Children’s Choir, and guest soloists.
