The second annual Volunteers of America Square Dance and Polka Party will be held from 7 to 11 p.m. on Friday, August 23 at the Irem Temple Country Club in Dal- Last year’s event drew nearly 700 people. Dancers from as far away as Harrisburg, York and Lycoming County as well as Columbia, Wyoming, Pike, Monroe and Lackawanna counties came to enjoy the music and dancing. Former Luzerne County Commissioner, Joseph “Red” Jones will again be calling. Over the years, Jones has been recog- nized by the U.S. House of Representatives, the PA Legislature and the Governor's Office as one of the top square dance callers in the state. Eddie Derwin and the Polka Naturals, one of the best polka bands in the region, will also be providing the @ Jones, who celebrated his 50th anniversary of calling square dances at last year’s event, enjoys helping to raise some mon- ey for good causes. “The proceeds will benefit a few of Volun- teers of America’s most crucial programs, only will the evening be fun, we will be helping the elderly, at- risk youth and a pantry for low income mothers and newborns.
