Raub U.S. proves it belongs at World Cup So much for the argument that the United States cannot compete with the world’s best in men’s soccer. After their truly horrific per- formance in the World Cup four years ago, the United States has taken a 180 degree turn for the better, and has increased their chances greatly towards bringing the country’s first-ever World Cup championship home to the land of the free. This team is not just a little lucky, but also a team that someone forgot to tell they are not supposed to be this good. A total team effort has pro- pelled the U.S. into the quarter- finals, where they face perenni- al powerhouse Germany, and with their current standing could beat the Germans and sneak their way into the semifi- nals. RAUB Post Staff LEHMAN TWP. — It's been 25 years since former Lake- Lehman wrestling standout Rocky Bonomo walked the halls at the Lake-Lehman Middle School. But the current Lock Haven University head coach got . that chance this week. Bonomo, 38, a 1981 graduate from Lake-Lehman, re- turned to the area to take part as a technician in the Lake- Lehman Wrestling Camp, and pass on some of the key ingredients that made “The sport of wrestling is him a star both on the an scholastic and collegiate such levels. awesome sport. Plus, being in this gymnasium again brought back a lot of memories.’ Bonomo spent two days teaching various leohnides + to wrestlers from elementary through high school age, and used lessons he’s learned along the way to help improve an already strong Black Knight wrestling program. Lake-Lehman head coach Phil Lipski was happy to have Bonomo work at the camp, and even received a little sur- prise when Rocky's brother Rick, a three-time NCAA nation- al champion, came by to help out for a day. “It was really a bonus to have Rick show up, because See BONOMO, pg 10 BMT Baseball All-Stars Here are the 2002 Back Mountain Baseball and Soft- ball Major League All-Stars. Soccer in America is growing bounds, and it is about time American citizens, and those from around the world, realize the U.S. can compete with the best of the best. : Sergio should stop crying foul Someone really needs to give Sergio Garcia a tissue. The Spanish golf phenom has been in the shadow of superstar and perennial fan favorite Tiger Woods since he came onto the PGA Tour, and as much as he tries to work his way into the spotlight, Woods is just too good to give it up without a fight. Garcia did not help his cause this weekend with comments he made to the media concerning the alleged benefits Woods re- ceived for the U.S Open with re- gards to his tee times and al- lowances made to make it easier for the American to win the sec- ond stage of golf's grand slam. Americans don't like cry ba- bies, and if Garcia wants to gain fans in the U.S., he’s gonna need to take things for what they are, and realize Woods is just the better golfer at this time.
