Nice promoted to supervisory position Game Lands Maintenance Worker George Nice of Sweet Val- ley, was recently promoted to Game Lands Maintenance Su- pervisor for the PA Game Com- mission’s Rickets Headquarters, SGL 57, Wyoming County. Game Lands Maintenance Su- pervisors are responsible for the development of new and or the maintenance of existing wildlife habitat areas on State Game lands through cooperative agreement with landowners. Work involves George Nice ~ supervising Game Lands Mainte- nance Workers, often referred to as Food and Cover workers, in maintenance and repair of equip- ment, facilities and grounds; op- eration of specialized equipment; or contacting landowners to se- cure agreements allowing for hunting and trapping on private land. A 33-year veteran of the Game Commission, Nice will oversee projects on State Game Lands 13, 57 and 66 comprising over 55,000 acres that include 270 acres of existing fields, 58 miles of roads, 42 separate parking lots, several impoundments and one public shooting range. Pri- vate land holdings consist of 12,550 acres currently enrolled in the Game Commission's Farm-Game Projects within Luzerne and Wyoming counties. Gemberling returns from Persian Gulf Third class petty officer Michael Gemberling, grandson of Charles and Rose Gemberling, Shavertown, recently returned to the United States after spend- ing six months in the Persian Gulf aboard the U.S.S. Peleliu. The U.S.S. Peleliu was the main ship for the U.S. Marine Corps in Afghanistan, and the first Taliban and Al-Qaida, pris- oners, including John Walker Lynn, were prisoners on the ship. This presentation is a program of the Pennsylvania Humanities Council, supported in part by a grant from the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Com- mission.
