) The Dallas Post Dallas, PA Thursday, April 4, 2002 3 Siorine from page 1) o BL CLER THY [Appointments The Supervisors appointed John Versari and Cornelius Allen to the board at special meetings held March 22. The le- gality of the appointments was questioned by township resi- dents at the meetings, and by Corrina Wilson, an attorney for the Pennsylvania Newspaper As- sociation, who was contacted by The Dallas Post. @ ' sabol told the Post he, Good- win and Jones met a week prior to the March 22 meetings and decided on the appointments, which attorney Wilson said is a violation of the state’s Sunshine Act. -- Jones has denied taking part in any meeting where names were discussed, but has said he @ met with both Supervisors to discuss the process for appoint- ing candidates to the board un- der the township's Home Rule Charter. “I take full responsibility for interpreting the charter in the matter which I indicated,” said Jones. “Rather than go through litigation in the courts over this, we have decided to take remedi- al action and save the township time and expenses.” Several attempts to reach Sabol at home Tuesday were un- successful. “I must assume that (Sabol and Goodwin) are going to choose those two people (at the meeting),” Jones said. : The Board of Supervisors must also appoint a fifth Super- visor, to fill a vacancy left by the death of William Tippett, but Jones said he does not know when that will take place. “(Sabol and Goodwin) have not told me what their intentions are in respect to appointing the fifth Supervisor, because this really isn’t a legal opinion, it is a politi- cal opinion,” said Jones. “I did tell them to make sure that any discussion on number five take place in the open and not an ex- ecutive session.” Geography @isoninued from page 1) compete at the state level. b “I think it is going to be a great experience,” said Debbie Danko, Eric's mother.
