Tucker is a ju- nior at Johns Hopkins University, where he is majoring in political science. He spent intercession break studying at the University of Havana, where he studied @ ban politics and culture. Tucker spoke to several English classes in the middle school, and answered students questions con- cerning the Cuban culture. He is the son of Christine and James Tucker, Trucksville. Students win Rosetti art awards More than 200 Back Mountain artists, including nearly 74 Dal- las and Lake-Lehman students, won awards during the 21st an- @iual Suzanne Maria Rossetti Memorial Juried Art Contest. More than 1,000 entries in 12 categories were submitted for the contest, which is sponsored by Dallas residents Joe and Sue Hand. The categories included pen- cil, pastel, watercolor, acrylic, oil, ink, scratchboard, mixed nedia, fibers, photography, ®orints, and miniature drawings and paintings. More than $3,000 in community-sponsored awards were presented. The contest was open to any seventh through 12th grade stu- dent who resides in, or attends, any public, private or parochial school in the Dallas, Lake- Lehman, Tunkhannock or Northwest school district. Students who study art with a rivate instructor who teaches within the geographical bound- aries of those school districts were also eligible. ~ The contest is held each year in memory of Suzanne Maria Rossetti. The 26-year-old daugh- ter of Louise and the late Peter Rossetti of Saugus, Mass. was SHUT d in 1981. After reading r tragic story, the Hands alled the Rossetti family and expressed their desire to hold an art exhibit in her memory. The Hands are the owners of Sue Hand's Imagery on Main Street in Dallas. An exhibit of winning artwork is on display through March 28 at the MacDonald Art Gallery on the College Misericordia cam- pus. The gallery is open from poon to 5 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays; noon to 5 p.m. Fri- days; and 1-5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. . The following students won awards. Matthew Schweitzer named to USMA dean’s list Cadet Matthew J. Schweitzer, son of Steve and Anita Schweitzer of Dallas, was named to the dean’s list at the U.S. Military Academy. To qualify for the dean’s list, a cadet must maintain a 3.0 grade point average. Schweitzer graduated from Dallas High School in 2000. He plans to graduate in 2004 from West Point and be commissioned a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army. Founded on March 16, 1802, the academy cele- brates its Bicentennial this year.
