Before retiring, he was a supervisor for the American Chain and Cable Co., Newark, N.J., and Exeter, and more recently was head custodi- ‘an of the Wyoming Area School District. He was a member of Pittston Knights of Columbus ‘Council 372 and its Fourth De- gree. He was a founder of the Pittston Little League, where he was past secretary. He was a member of St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church, Kingston. He was preceded in death his granddaughter, Susan Gamble; brothers, Joseph and John; and sister, Johanna Gamble. Surviving are his wife, the for- mer Julianna Pataki; sons, John, Duryea; and Andrew, Sweet Valley, Ross Township; daughter, Diane Wilson, Moun- taintop; six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; sister, He- len Englehart, Cooper City, Fla.; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death to her first husband, Donald R. Jayne; second husband, William Maxwell; a son who died in infancy; and brothers, Theodore, Roland and Byren. MICHAEL SHISKOWSKI Former Dallas resident who served in World War II Michael Shiskowski, 81, of Luzerne, formerly of Dallas, died Monday Jan. 28, 2002 at the Department of Veter- ans Affairs Medical Center, Plains Township. Born Aug. 26, 1920 in Wilkes-Barre, he was a son of the late John and “Helen (Rompala) Shiskowski. He at- tended schools in the Plains Township public ‘school dis- ° trict. He was a machinist for 25 years at the Native Tex- tiles, Dallas. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the 506 Military Police Battalion. He was dec- orated with the American Theater Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Medal with two Bronze Ser- vice Stars, the Good Conduct Medal AR 600-68 and the Victory Medal. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Berna- dine Good; sisters, Helen Richards, Eva Gray and Mary Mikalouska; and brothers, John and Frank.
